Crynodeb

This is a unique opportunity to directly shape and develop cyber security policy for the whole of government. In this role you will be delivering on a key ministerial priority for the UK to continue to be a leading cyber power that is able to protect its interests in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

The policy and guidance products you develop will have a real impact on increasing the cyber resilience of HMG, including in areas such as supply chain, commercial security and incident management. You may also have the opportunity to work on other big picture issues like the threats and opportunities posed by Artificial Intelligence, quantum cryptography, and the increasing commercial availability of offensive cyber tools.

The Policy & Supply Chain team plays a critical role in ensuring government has the right policies and guidance in place to drive organisational resilience, as well as enhancing cross-government collaboration and identifying shared capabilities to deliver on the objectives in the Government Cyber Security Strategy. You will be joining a growing directorate and team, and will report to a Manchester-based SEO and Grade 7, who will work directly with you.

The Government Cyber Unit functions as a convenor and co-ordinator for cyber security and resilience across the whole of the UK government, and the Policy & Supply Chain Team is no different. You will work with a wide variety of stakeholders - including central government departments, Arms Length Bodies (ALBs), the National Cyber Security Centre (a part of GCHQ), the Devolved Administrations, as well as industry and overseas partners - where you will have a unique opportunity to gain insight to a broad range of national security work across government.

As an HEO Cyber Policy Advisor you will:

Work closely with stakeholders to drive policy work, conduct research, identify opportunities for join-up, and build consensus.
Use insights from engagement, government assurance processes and other intelligence to help develop and maintain a programme of policy work that addresses some of the government's most pressing cyber security challenges.
Work on policy issues like supply chain security and incident management, where you will be required to engage with a wide stakeholder community, including through developing and leading working groups.
Have the opportunity to provide briefings to senior officials on strategic policy issues, alongside more reactive policy responses as they arise.

You may also be required to provide additional capacity for wider teams within the Cyber Directorate on things like incident management and assurance activities on an-hoc basis.

The Policy & Supply Chain Team is a hybrid team based across multiple locations. We are committed to creating a collaborative, inclusive team, so this post will require occasional travel to other GDS locations so that we can work together face-to-face.
