A committed, caring, flexible and mature Personal Assistant is required to support a disabled lady for 12 to 15 hours per week to manage a daily routine for herself, her horses, sheep and guide dog. Also required to enable her to access national level Para and RDA dressage competitions and training
This post requires a patient and understanding attitude in order to reassure and support this lady plus the experience of working with multiple horses. The ability to plait, clip and turn out to county show standard is essential as dressage for disabled riders demands dedication and high standards of riders and their supporters.
Required for 3 mornings per week plus competitions in South Wales for 1 or 2 days per month and nationally for 2-3 days approximately 3 times a year. (Spring & summer only).
Riding, teaching and exercising are NOT a part of the job remit.
No personal care duties are involved in this post but it may be necessary to share female accommodation at competitions.
A full driving licence is essential.
Possibility of some social activities for the right person.
Principal duties and responsibilities:
1. To support, assist and ensure the safety of the employer at all times whilst maintaining her daily routines.
2. Supporting the employer with encouragement in gaining independence
3. To support an independent lifestyle, both at home and in the community.
4. Providing support to the employer whilst attending activities with her horses (with the emphasis being on support and assist).
5. Supporting the employer to develop independent living skills
6. To provide companionship in the employer’s home, including engaging in conversation with the employer and providing them with social interaction
7. To assist with the maintenance of the front lawn for the benefit of a guide dog.
8. To carry out any other reasonable tasks that are requested by the employer during your working hours/ Also be prepared to share duties and coordinate rest periods with others during periods away from home.
9. To ensure compliance with Data Protection Act.
10. Be mindful of safeguarding issues, and feedback any concerns to Carmarthenshire County Council immediately on (01267 228751)
11. Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should the employer need medical assistance.

1. Ability to develop supportive and caring relationship with employer.
2. To undertake all duties in a friendly and helpful manner.
3. Able to contact people on behalf of the employer when necessary.

Working in employer’s homes and supporting them to access facilities and community activities.
Person specification – Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills:
1. Caring, patient and friendly.
2. Responsible, reliable and honest.
3. Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work on own initiative.
4. Has good local knowledge of the area where the employer lives.
5. Good time-keeping and flexibility around working patterns and duties as determined by the employer’s requirements.
6. Ability to keep simple records such as time recording.
7. Good communicator able to talk to people on behalf of the employer when required.
8. Able to develop long-term supportive and consistent relationships with employers.
9. A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is likely to be required. This is determined by the needs of the employer and whether you live within walking distance.
10. You must be prepared to have business use on your vehicle insurance to be able to use the vehicle within work hours
11. Be prepared to undergo training in order to best meet the employers need.
