You’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality careers guidance and supporting our college-wide careers strategy. Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting delivery of the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks and maintaining our Matrix quality standard
  • Providing 1:1 and group guidance to students across all levels of education
  • Helping students explore and progress into Higher Education, Apprenticeships or Employment ensuring they are informed, confident and prepared for their next steps
  • Delivering services face-to-face, by phone or virtually via Teams
  • Using digital platforms to extend the reach of our careers service
  • Designing and delivering high-impact careers events and activities ensuring that they meet individual needs and aspirations
  • Collaborating with curriculum managers, student experience leads, and the wider Student Services team
  • Supporting improved outcomes for priority groups, including vulnerable learners, those with Special Educational Needs (SEN), and students facing barriers to progression

You’ll be expected to work both flexibly and independently, while being fully supported by a collaborative network that includes:

  • The Careers Team, Schools Outreach Team, and Student Operations Team
  • The wider Student Services Team, including:
  • Wellbeing and Additional Learning Support
  • Personal Development Tutors and Wellbeing Mentors
  • The Work Experience/ Employer Engagement Team

Strong networking and relationship-building skills will be essential, enabling you to foster positive connections across departments and contribute to a joined-up approach to student support.

Who we're looking for

We are looking for a level 6 qualified Careers Guidance specialist to join our Careers Team and support the well-established Careers programme at Nottingham College. We will also consider an individual who is currently undertaking this qualification, should they meet the other essential criteria as below.

This part-time role is structured across two days per week:

  • Wednesday is a fixed working day
  • The second day will be agreed with the successful candidate based on service needs and team availability

This structure makes the role well-suited to professionals balancing other commitments such as freelance work, caring responsibilities or further study.

In this high paced role, you should enjoy working with a wide range of students to support and guide them to navigate their way through a range of careers education experiences. You should be an experienced, motivational, enthusiastic and flexible Careers Advisor who:

  • Has a Level 6 qualification in Careers Guidance (or is currently working towards it with completion within 6 months of starting the role)
  • Brings experience of working with young people and adults across all levels of education in both 1:1 and group settings
  • Has a strong understanding of local labour markets and current developments in careers education
  • Is confident working independently and flexibly across multiple campuses
  • Has excellent networking and collaboration skills
  • Is committed to inclusive practice, with experience supporting vulnerable learners and those with SEN
