Location: Northallerton, North Yorkshire

The Integrated Passenger Transport Operations Team is responsible for the safe and efficient use of one hundred and twenty minibuses used to transport people in North Yorkshire. The team comprises approximately 350 drivers and passenger assistants that operate at locations throughout North Yorkshire.

About the Role

The team delivers approximately 250,000 passenger journeys per year including 20,000 wheelchair user journeys. The transport provided enables people to access schools, day centres, learning opportunities, supported employment and other meaningful activities in our community. We also undertake registered local bus services and community transport journeys.

You will be responsible for the safety of passengers during these journeys and will ensure that the passengers board and alight safely as well as ensuring that any safety equipment is used correctly.

The work will involve driving Social Care routes, School routes and Local Bus Services routes transporting the public. On Social Care routes and on most School routes you will usually work with a Passenger Assistant. On Local Bus Services routes (transporting the public) you will normally work alone.

This Driver role will involve split shifts for the Social Care routes and for the school routes, but the Local Bus Services work (transporting the public) is not split shift work (The hours are normally completed in one shift with appropriate breaks etc.).

Required Skills and Experience

All drivers require a D1 driving licence entitlement.

Full training in the use of all safety equipment will be provided. You will need effective communication skills as you will liaise daily with the passengers, carers and establishment staff.

Experience is not essential: however, some experience of driving minibus type vehicles or working in a similar role would be an advantage for this post.

We are looking for a caring, flexible and committed person to help us provide this transport.

This is a Relief post and there are no guaranteed hours. You will be an important part of the team and will be asked to work to support our service during periods of leave and other absence, normally on a split shift basis but the Local Bus Services work will not be split shift (The hours are normally completed in one shift with appropriate breaks etc.).
