Do you have strong communication skills with a range of stakeholders?

Would you excel at managing a team to deliver high-quality service?

Have you line managed staff at different levels to meet performance goals?

If so, we’d love to hear from you!

This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a fast paced environment, where this role is unique, interesting and very diverse.

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) plays a vital role in keeping Britain’s roads safe and efficient. We are responsible for the registration and licensing of drivers in Great Britain and vehicles across the UK, as well as the collection and enforcement of Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). Our work ensures that only qualified drivers and correctly taxed vehicles are on the road.

Our key responsibilities include issuing photocard driving licences and vehicle registration certificates, recording driver endorsements and medical conditions, and taking enforcement action against tax evaders. We also register and issue tachograph cards, sell personalised registrations, and support law enforcement by providing crucial data to police and intelligence services. In addition, we offer anonymised data services to authorised users, helping inform public and private sector decision-making.

At DVLA, we are committed to delivering services that are simple, secure, and efficient making a difference to millions of people every day.

Joining our department comes with many benefits, including:

  • Employer pension contribution of 28.97% of your salary. Read more about Civil Service Pensions here
  • 25 days annual leave, increasing by 1 day each year of service (up to a maximum of 30 days annual leave), plus 8 bank holidays and a privilege day for the King’s birthday

The Police Support Team is dedicated to exchanging information and data between the DVLA and law enforcement agencies across the UK via an email and telephone based enquiry service. The data is required to facilitate the investigation and prevention of crime or road traffic incidents. It is the first point of contact for recognised police liaison officers who represent all UK police forces and other enforcement agencies.

The team provides a “live” service with tight turnaround times which is supported by a 24/7 on-call service for urgent and threat to life enquiries.

This is a wide-ranging role that requires a good understanding of DVLA and the services we provide. It covers all aspects of DVLA business including Driver, Vehicles, Data sharing and Enforcements.

In the role of Team leader, you will be responsible for the management of the Police Support Team service delivery to our key law enforcement stakeholders, providing advice and guidance on requests for information and ensuring their needs are understood by DVLA.

Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Stakeholder engagement both internally and externally.
  • Representing the unit and our stakeholders’ interests and priorities in providing specialist advice and support.
  • Engaging with internal stakeholders to keep up to date with changes to Agency policies, processes and technical change to assess the impact of change on our services and stakeholders.
  • Day to day management of the operation team, including a 24/7 on call service. This includes line management of approx. 10 staff at AA, AO and EO grade.
  • Management of the provision of information and evidence, where appropriate and lawful, from DVLA databases to the police and other key stakeholders in relation to a wide range of criminal offences.

Great line management is important to us as an organisation, and we will equip and support line managers to develop the skills they need. We aim to empower line managers to create teams where people can flourish and deliver excellent outcomes for the public.
