The Paediatric Orthopaedic Unit offers a full range of service and tertiary referral services. We receive referrals from Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire. We are part of the East Midlands Operational Delivery Network (ODN) and we lead an active clubfoot network as part of this.
We offer specialist neuromuscular, spina bifida, transitional and clubfoot and hip scanning clinics with the MDT. Routine children’s trauma is dealt with by the trauma team, with whom we work very closely, with complex trauma and infection cared for by the unit. There is a dedicated paediatric trauma list weekly with an additional paediatric orthopaedic presence on the general trauma lists 3 days a week.
We benefit from close working relationships with paediatric specialities, and with adult Orthopaedic colleagues.
The post holder will also work one day per week in Northampton general Hospital providing Paediatric Orthopaedic outpatient clinics and operating. The postholder will support the general Orthopaedic team in Northampton in the management of Paediatric Orthopaedic trauma when on site in Northampton.
The post is based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, a major teaching hospital closely allied with the University of Leicester and the medical school. There is also one day per week in Northampton General Hospital.
This post is a locum post for 12 months to cover a colleague on exceptional leave. In addition, there is a planned retirement in the unit and therefore the we are looking to make a substantive appointment in the near future. Subspecialty interests of interest to the department are: neuromuscular and DDH. It is expected that the post holder will also be comfortable managing the generality of paediatric orthopaedics.
This post is one of four surgeons and does not have an on call commitment, although there is an expectation that the post holder will contribute actively to trauma and infection care.
Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).
We have four primary goals:
• high-quality care for all,
• being a great place to work,
• partnerships for impact, and
• research and education excellence
And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.
Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
• we are compassionate,
• we are proud,
• we are inclusive, and
• we are one team
This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
