This post has not received specific Royal College or Postgraduate approval for training and is expected to attract trainees seeking Out of Programme Experience (OOPE). However previous post holders have successfully applied to the RCP for time to count towards training. The post is educationally sound and well supported, with excellent opportunities for gaining experience in geriatric medicine, palliative care, neurology sub-specialties (Parkinsons disease, MS and dementia) service development & quality improvement. This post will involve work across multiple divisions (Medicine, NMSK & ASCR), with an overall governance responsibility to the Medicine Division. Learning objectives Demographics and political landscape relevant to neuro-palliative care. National reports and policy drivers relevant neuro-palliative care. Developing pathways of care for neuro-palliative care across primary / secondary care. Familiarity with and integration of neuro-palliative tools within the developed pathway. Develop a knowledge of neuro-palliative care with respects to PD, MS and Dementia. Develop a knowledge of specific symptom management (i.e., spasticity). MDT and collaborative working across setting and speciality (neurology, Geriatrics, Palliative care). Application of ethical and biomedical approaches to ensure appropriate ceilings for escalation of care. Contribution to national and international evidence base through description of novel services and service evaluation. Teaching The post holder will take responsibility for the training and direction of junior staff allocated to him/her under aegis of the training plan that that post holder has agreed with their supervising consultant. The post holder may be expected to contribute as appropriate in the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
