Crynodeb

The Home Office works to build a safe, fair and prosperous UK. We achieve this through our work on counter-terrorism, policing, crime, drugs policy, immigration and passports.

The Science, Technology, Research and Analysis (STAR) Group sits at the heart of the Home Office. The group ensures the best evidence and analysis are used to address the strategic issues facing the department. We also provide the science, technology, data, and international insights and collaboration capabilities to drive delivery.

The Performance Reporting & Analysis Unit (PRAU), part of the Home Office Analysis & Insight directorate, provides reporting and analysis of performance for the Migration & Borders Mission and associated operational capabilities. We support Ministers, the Executive Committee, Policy and Operational leads, and other analytical functions with the management information (MI) they need.

We also produce data for publication and other forms of external release. The Unit advises and supports others in the Department on making the best use of performance information and leads the transformation of MI systems and capabilities.

This post provides an opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, engaging with projects that work across the department to understand and deliver reporting requirements both short and long term, and provides opportunity to understand first-hand how the different parts of the Home Office (HO) use and interact with key performance information.

The successful candidate will work closely with Migration & Borders (M&B). They will need to develop an in depth understanding of this area to ensure that business processes are reflected in the data of new or existing reports. They will have or need to develop business analysis skills to capture business requirements and translate them into actionable work. They will also play a critical role in the shaping, design, and development of new reports.

The role involves ensuring regular reports and dashboards are timely, accurate, and relevant, and they reflect best practice in presenting performance information. You need to be able to highlight the right issues and support productive conversations about performance. A key element of the role is gathering the right performance information and insight needed to produce high quality performance reports.

It also requires you to develop a good working knowledge of the diverse range of business across the M&B mission. Training and support on our methods and tooling will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • The role includes delivery of regular and ad-hoc business reporting requirements, as well as playing a key role in embedding new technologies and shaping the future delivery of MI services.
  • Producing regular (typically weekly and monthly) cross-system performance reports covering the key work areas in M&B, covering key performance indicators for this part of the Department.
  • Supporting the M&B Board and sub-groups to the Board to understand and manage the performance of the mission.
  • Undertaking (data) analysis into cross-M&B performance issues, seeking to develop new datasets and new insight from our data to help the mission understand and tackle challenges.
  • Working with the teams elsewhere in PRAU, with the Home Office Delivery Unit, and with performance teams in each M&B Capability to ensure there is a coherent, single picture of the performance of the mission presented to senior officials, Ministers and internally.
  • Leading on the development of strategic-level M&B and HO Wide performance dashboards in the Department’s developing Power BI-based management information system, working with other teams in PRAU/M&B/HO as needed.

Working pattern
This role is available on a full-time basis with the option of compressed hours working. This role is also suitable for part-time working hours, with a minimum requirement to work 4 days / 30 hours per week due to business requirements.
