Crynodeb

Are you a practical problem-solver who thrives in a hands-on, fast-paced environment?

Do you take pride in creating safe, well-maintained spaces and supporting teams to do their best work?

Age UK Plymouth is looking for a proactive and reliable Operations Supervisor to help keep our centres running smoothly and safely. Working across both of our main sites, you’ll support the delivery of essential operational services – from maintenance and housekeeping to health & safety, IT, and procurement.

This is a dynamic, people-focused role where no two days are the same. You’ll play a vital part in ensuring our facilities are welcoming, compliant, and running efficiently – helping staff, volunteers, and service users to thrive in a positive and well-supported environment.

About the Role

As Operations Supervisor, you’ll work closely with the Director of Operations to coordinate and oversee a wide range of site-based services. You’ll be the go-to person for maintenance issues, supplier coordination, team support, and health & safety – keeping things running behind the scenes so others can deliver frontline support.

From managing rotas and stock control to liaising with contractors and conducting site checks, this role offers variety, responsibility, and the chance to make a genuine impact every day.

Key Responsibilities
• Oversee the daily delivery of site operations across housekeeping, maintenance, and general facilities.
• Support and supervise operations staff, ensuring teams are equipped, trained, and resourced.
• Carry out regular site checks and ensure compliance with Health & Safety and Fire Safety regulations.
• Act as a liaison for contractors and service providers, managing maintenance schedules and service level agreements.
• Monitor and maintain standards across operational areas, identifying and implementing improvements.
• Manage stock control, procurement, and departmental budgets in line with internal processes.
• Assist in producing monthly reporting data and performance updates.

About You

What We’re Looking For
• Proven experience in an operational, facilities, or supervisory role.
• Strong organisational and multitasking skills with excellent attention to detail.
• A proactive, solution-focused attitude and the ability to work independently.
• Confident communicator who can work well with staff, volunteers, and external contractors.
• Basic knowledge of Health & Safety, Fire Safety, and compliance procedures (training can be provided).
• Practical skills or background in site maintenance, caretaking, or logistics would be an advantage.
• A commitment to maintaining high standards and supporting a safe, inclusive workplace.

Why Join Us at Age UK Plymouth?
• Be part of a respected local charity with over 80 years of community impact.
• Join a supportive and collaborative working environment.
• Make a tangible difference every day, helping to create safe and welcoming spaces for older people and staff.
• Opportunities for ongoing training and development.
• No evening or late-night shifts.

The wellbeing of our employees is a priority, so we have the following benefits:
• On top of the 5.6 weeks annual leave with Age UK Plymouth your annual leave will also increase by an additional day with each year of service for the 1st 5 years.
• Company sick pay is available after successful completion of the probationary period.
• We have an Employee Assistance Programme with Bupa.
• Wellbeing courses
• Social events.
