Ready to shape the future of digital public services?
Join DWP Hybrid Cloud Services as a Lead Cloud Infrastructure Engineer and play a key role in delivering secure, scalable solutions that support over 22 million people across the UK.
As a Lead Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, you will be an expert in your field, skilled in multiple disciplines, a role model in Infrastructure operations and have proven experience in the design, development and support of infrastructure services.
You will lead a team of senior infrastructure engineers and provide guidance and support for cloud engineers in your area, ensuring they build products and services using industry standards and following DWP good practice.
You will be responsible for defining medium to long term strategies for product lines, defining guidelines for the engineering community and leading their adoption across teams to deliver quality infrastructure solutions.
You will have solid experience of the full application development lifecycle, including supporting live service.
As a Lead Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, you will work in an agile multidisciplinary team building and operating products and services that are consumed by the rest of DWP Digital.
You will build centralised, shared cloud infrastructure services that allow application teams to build, deploy and scale applications quickly to serve our citizens. Our infrastructure hosts applications that serve 22 million citizens, making around £177 billion in payments each year.
You will design, implement, administer and support cloud infrastructure technologies, solutions and services such as:
- Container platforms
- Continuous integration
- Infrastructure as Code
- PaaS and SaaS services
You will be working across one or more of these services, liaising with other technical teams, with the autonomy to identify and build the right solution to meet user needs.
You will have a deep understanding of cloud tools and technologies, especially around container build and runtime environments, Kubernetes administration and associated technologies e.g. Flux/ArgoCD/Helm, infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD pipelines.
You will have an appreciation of information security, designing solutions and services with security controls embedded, specifically engineered as mitigation against security threats as a core part of the solutions and services.
As part of the team, you will support products (in-hours and on-call), ensuring that the right actions are taken to investigate, resolve and anticipate problems.
You will have line-management responsibilities and provide technical support and assistance to junior team-members.
You will communicate with others in a clear, honest and enthusiastic way to build trust, and be able to explain complex issues in a way that is easy to understand.
