Position Summary
The Assistant Manager supports the smooth operation of an organisation by working closely with the Postmistress and other team members. This role involves overseeing daily activities, ensuring high standards of customer service, managing staff, and assisting in the achievement of business objectives. The Assistant Manager acts as a bridge between upper management and frontline employees, ensuring effective communication and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist the Postmistress in the daily running of the business, ensuring all operational procedures are followed.
• Supervise and motivate staff, providing guidance, training, and support as needed.
• Handle customer enquiries, resolve complaints, and ensure a positive customer experience.
• Monitor stock levels, place orders, and oversee inventory management.
• Prepare reports on sales, staff performance, and operational issues for management review.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies.
• Participate in staff recruitment, onboarding, and scheduling.
• Support the implementation of promotional campaigns and business initiatives.
• Step in to manage the business in the Manager’s absence.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
• Previous experience in a supervisory or management role, preferably within a similar industry.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capacity to remain calm under pressure.
• Good organisational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including Saturdays.
• GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths; further education or relevant qualifications are advantageous.
Desirable Personal Attributes
• Approachable and supportive leadership style.
• Strong sense of responsibility and reliability.
• Adaptable, with a willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards.
Typical Working Conditions
Assistant Managers will be expected to work in all three areas the business are responsible for which are the Post Office, Banking Hub and Mobile Branch. These three branches are varied and fast-paced environments. The role may require standing for extended periods, working irregular hours including Saturdays, and managing multiple priorities simultaneously. Professional attire and a positive attitude are typically expected. A full clean driving licence is also required.
Reporting Structure
The Assistant Manager reports directly to the Postmistress and may be required to provide regular updates on team performance, operational challenges, and customer feedback.
Next Steps All shortlisted applicants will be required to attend a face-to- face interview. If you are the successful candidate your training will commence in branch with external training sessions as and when required.
