Autism Teaching Assistant
Are you looking for a rewarding Autism Teaching Assistant role? This long-term opportunity offers the chance to support pupils with autism in a nurturing setting where every day brings the opportunity to make a real difference.
The Role
As an Autism Teaching Assistant, no two days are ever the same. You will:
- Support pupils in the classroom to access lessons, adapting resources and tasks to their individual needs
- Work 1:1 with pupils to develop communication, social interaction and independence skills
- Assist with emotional regulation, helping pupils manage challenges through calm, consistent strategies
- Provide support during transitions, breaktimes, and activities outside the classroom to ensure pupils feel safe and included
- Use visuals, routines, and structured approaches to support understanding and reduce anxiety
- Work closely with teachers, therapists, and the wider staff team to put personalised learning and support plans into practice
- Celebrate progress, however small, and encourage pupils to achieve their personal goals
This is a hands-on role where patience, creativity, and adaptability are key.
What We're Looking For
- A relevant Degree, Teaching assistant, Childcare or Health and Social qualification
- Experience supporting adults, children or young people with SEND
- A calm, empathetic and proactive approach to behaviour support
- The ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
The School
This specialist setting is a wonderfully nurturing environment with small class sizes. Staff work as a team to ensure every pupil feels valued and supported. The school provides specialist training and encourages staff development, making it an excellent place to grow your career in SEND.
Hours
Monday to Friday, 8.30 am to 3.30 pm.
If you have a passion for supporting pupils with autism, this specialist school would love to welcome you to the team.
Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07 % statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
