What skills and experience we're looking for

Are you an enthusiastic and inspiring Teacher of Science? If so, you will be interested in the opportunity that we currently have available at Horbury Academy from January 2026. You will have passion and enthusiasm, alongside the skills and desire to develop pupils in your classes and help them achieve excellent academic results.

We are keen to receive applications from professionals who can teach in one of the science subject specialisms i.e. Biology, Chemistry or Physics – ability to teach in more than one specialism would be beneficial but not essential.

Horbury Academy is an Ofsted ‘good’ rated secondary academy with great facilities and a fantastic Science department. The Science department at Horbury Academy are supported by an excellent team of technicians with an abundance of resources and equipment to aid lessons and learning. The department value challenge and active participation. The successful applicant will relentlessly pursue instilling an interest in their subject amongst all pupils, you will be innovative, with demonstrable resilience, vision and energy.

Your role will involve shaping the curriculum to meet the needs of our diverse pupil body and ensuring alignment with industry standards. You will have a deep interest in the attainment of pupils at every ability level and show vigour and initiative. The Science department at the Academy are an outstanding team of professionals who are vibrant and forward thinking.

Although this post states Full Time, applications for Part Time hours are also welcomed. Please note on your application form/email on what basis you want to apply.

Applications are welcomed from teachers across the experience range. We offer an extensive programme of academy and Trust Professional Development to ensure all colleagues continue to develop as practitioners and have opportunities to work collaboratively across subjects and across academies within our Trust.

Early Career Teachers (ECTs) will have an experienced subject mentor assigned from day one in post. Colleagues are supported through their early career years with regular check ins from line managers and opportunities to meet with other ECT’s across the Trust and colleagues from HR where any further support and guidance may be required. We are an inclusive academy and Trust and embrace opportunities to develop all colleagues on their journey to success. All newly appointed teaching colleagues receive a bespoke onboarding induction including their first day off timetable to ensure sufficient time and preparation can take place.
