The Governing Body is looking for an exceptional and inspiring Executive Headteacher to lead the REYS Federation.
This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of Early Years Education in Reading by building on a foundation of outstanding practice and leading our federation to even greater success.
About Us
The Reading Early Years Schools federation (REYS) was established in January 2020. Located within the Borough of Reading, REYS is made up of three well-established Maintained Nursery Schools and a term-time day care provision. The schools also include 2 SEND resource bases for children with high/complex needs.
Together, we provide high-quality Early Years Education for up to 400 children aged 2 to 5 years. Each school has its own strong identity and deep-rooted community connections, united by a shared commitment to nurturing every child’s development and love of learning.
We are also proud to be the lead partner for the Thames Valley and South-Central Early Years Stronger Practice Hub, offering evidence-based training and sector support.
The Role
We are looking for a passionate and visionary leader ready to shape the future of Early Years Education. As our Executive Headteacher, you will provide strategic and visionary leadership across the federation, ensuring consistent excellence while preserving the unique character of each school.
With a strong commitment to inclusive practice and child-centred learning, we are proud of our embedded outstanding provisions— and we aspire to share and extend this excellence across the wider locality. As our Executive Headteacher, you will lead dedicated teams in driving innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within our settings and beyond.
You will work collaboratively with Governors, staff, families, the Local Authority, and wider partners to further develop our ambitious and inclusive approach to Early Years Education.
You will:
Lead the ongoing development of our shared vision, values, and strategic priorities.
Champion high-quality, inclusive provision that enables all children to thrive.
Ensure financial and operational sustainability in a changing Early Years landscape.
Inspire and empower staff to deliver the best possible outcomes for children and families.
Represent and advocate for Maintained Nursery Schools at local and regional levels.
We Are Looking for Someone Who:
Is an experienced, ambitious, and values-led leader with a strong record of improving outcomes for children aged 2–5.
Has significant experience in safeguarding, with a deep understanding of child protection responsibilities (as DSL or Deputy DSL).
Believes passionately in the value of play-based learning and inclusive early education.
Demonstrates a strong commitment to equity and supporting children from disadvantaged or underrepresented backgrounds.
Builds positive, respectful relationships with children, families, staff, and stakeholders.
Can balance the individuality of each school with the shared purpose of the federation.
Is reflective, empathetic, and committed to ongoing professional growth.
What We Offer:
A passionate, skilled, and dedicated team of educators and leaders.
Dedicated support from a knowledgeable and engaged Governing Body.
Opportunities to shape regional Early Years practice through our leadership of the Stronger Practice Hub.
A chance to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children and families in Reading.
If you are a forward-thinking leader who is committed to excellence and equity in early years education, we would love to hear from you. Visits to the schools are warmly welcomed.
