We are looking to recruit 2 keen and enthusiastic new colleagues to join a friendly, forward thinking plastic surgery team. This is a locum consultant post based at Morriston Hospital but working across the Swansea Bay University Health board sites. The successful candidate will join a team of 28 substantive plastic and reconstructive surgeons responsible for the provision of Burns and Plastic Surgical services for the population of South Wales. The post has been created to help us to address waiting time targets. It is a fixed term appointment in the first instance. The plastic surgery service provides outreach services to nearly all the acute hospitals in South Wales, serving a population of 2.3M people. We are the only providers of plastic surgery located in Wales; the population of North Wales receiving their services from units in North West England The facilities available in the Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery are some of the best in the UK, with large operating theatres, dedicated plastic surgery trauma theatre, plastic surgery treatment centre, plastic surgery trauma ward with specialised flap monitoring unit (PSMU), a shared elective surgery ward, childrens beds and a paediatric HDU for tertiary surgical services. There is a plastic surgical outpatient and dressings suite and dedicated occupational, physio and speech & language therapy departments. The burns centre is exceptional, with a dedicated operating theatre; newly developed ITU beds, a 7 bed adult low dependency/rehabilitation ward for adults, shared childrens ward and also rehabilitation and outreach services. The Clinical Plastic Surgery Unit has recently collaborated with Swansea University to form The Reconstructive Surgery & Regenerative Medicine Research Unit (ReconRegen). Located across two main sites, The Institute of Life Science at Swansea University & The European Centre for Nanohealth (Wales premier purpose-built £50million medical research facility) and a research suite at The Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery (ABM University health Board).
