To contribute to Environmental Services programmes and projects to deliver Carbon Action Plan and Environmental Strategy objectives, comply with legal responsibilities and satisfy Health, Safety and Welfare legislation. Post holders will undertake training in various professional areas to develop appropriate skills, knowledge and experience to become a well-rounded professional in a diverse Environmental Service, all under the supervision of senior staff. The areas will include carbon reduction and clean energy projects, waste and recycling, parks and greenspace, behaviour change and community engagement.
1 Communicate in writing and verbally, including taking an active part in meetings, with the public, Members and external organisations in order to transmit and receive information relating to projects being undertaken.
2 Undertake project management including project programming, managing of risk, method statements, information, and administration systems to ensure that projects are managed efficiently and effectively.
3 Undertake the design of projects to appropriate standards by using both traditional and computer based methods, including the production of project plans, procurement and contract documents to enable projects to be completed to deliver the planned benefits.
4 Develop specifications for procured work to enable estimates of costs and delivery timescales to be accurately produced for projects being undertaken.
5 Supervise contractors and consultants undertaking projects to ensure that they carried out in accordance with the agreed specifications, costs and programme, including the checking and processing of submissions and work.
6 Undertake site visits and record results in order to provide information to enable effective service delivery and to inform the design of projects.
7 Apply sound commercial knowledge to all aspects of contract management including feasibility studies, forms of contract, responsibilities of parties, procurement methods, methods of payment, contractual records, insurances, instructions and variations, to enable contracts to be let efficiently.
8 Produce and maintain quality plans and records, review systems and recommend improvements to any such systems in order to contribute to the continuous improvement of the Service's quality systems.
The job holder may be required at any time to under take any work up to and/or at a level consistent with existing responsibilities. These tasks may be at any location in Cheshire East, to ensure the effective deployment of labour, materials, transport and equipment to meet daily service requirements.
Cheshire East council is seeking a driven individual who has a passion for the environment and work related to mitigating and adapting to Climate Change. This individual must hold a undergraduate or masters degree in a field related to Environment, Climate Change, Carbon reduction or related field.
The successful applicant will spend 12 months as part of the councils Carbon Team, ensuring the council is meeting it's carbon reduction targets by maintaining the KPI dash board as well as applying for grants to aid in meeting the goals in this area, creating communication materials to help influence carbon reduction across the borough and stakeholder engagement sessions in line with the council Wider Borough Carbon Neutral Action Plan 2045.
There may also be the requirement to work across other teams in Environmental Services.
