If you’re seeking a fresh challenge in a busy warehousing environment which will keep your workload varied and your brain busy, then we have a Goods-In Warehouse Operative vacancy that might be right for you.

Working for our client in Bury St Edmunds, this is a full-time, permanent role working 37.5 hours a week from 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday. The salary offered is £24,000 - £28,000 which is subject to review after the successful completion of a 3-month probation and annually thereafter.

Our client is a medium-sized business with sites in Europe and the USA who have a fantastic reputation in their industry for delivering fast, efficient products and services to their clients. After 35 successful years in business, the group are continuing to expand.

The Job

This vacancy will be working at their group headquarters in the main warehouse – a modern but busy, full warehouse with a team of 15 colleagues. Reporting to the Warehouse Manager and Assistant Warehouse Manager, goods-in is a critical area where there’s no room for mistakes to be made so a cool, calm head, a bright nature and an excellent attention to detail are key!

The role requires someone who enjoys the problem-solving and investigative work that comes with stock control and inventory management using modern warehousing management systems. With tens of thousands of SKUs in the warehouse, the Goods In Warehouse Operative is the ‘point of the sword’ in the team and sets the pace and structure for the rest of the team and the warehouse workflow.

Within this role your duties will involve:

Auditing of stock lines, discrepancy identification, root cause analysis and corrective process refinement
Stock rotation and distribution, promoting product flow to Goods-out departments
Moving stock by hand, using lifting gear and a forklift truck (forklift training can be given)
Full use of the stock management system
Undertake receipt and checking of incoming stock and supplies
Unloading delivery vehicles
Checking accuracy of deliveries for damaged or missing items
Manage the throughput of stock from receipt to location and rotation
Maintain a speedy working tempo; be focused and diligent enough to execute your tasks swiftly and accurately; setting a great example to colleagues and providing quick service to customers
Return goods to suppliers
Loading goods for dispatch
Liaising with sales/purchasing staff
Communicate clearly, respectfully and effectively with all colleagues – working closely with goods out
Oversee courier/carrier goods to respective drivers
Capacity planning across our main site, satellite warehouses and 3PL’s
Adhere at all times to safe working practices in line with the H&S policy
Visiting the two other local warehouse sites and move goods around in the work van as appropriate
For the right candidate, there is room to grow and develop your skills and experiences within this role and be appropriately rewarded. Many of our client’s workforce have worked in the company for a long time, and ideally, we would like to find somebody who wishes to stay and commit to a role and grow within it for a considerable length of time.

The Requirements

We require a pace-setting, go-getting, dedicated hard worker with a background in warehouse operations for this role. You’ll need to enjoy variety but also be able to focus on tasks of all types and complete the work on time, without error. This is an active job and requires a certain level of physical fitness to fulfil the duties of the role, as well as a sharp mind and good administrative skills.

Other requirements are:

A full UK driving licence (please declare any points and driving convictions when applying)
Previous experience in a busy warehouse environment
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, maintain accuracy and work with a good sense of pace and urgency when required
Strong computer literacy
Willingness to learn and be trained in multiple areas of the warehouse
A desire to work to high standards – of health and safety, tidiness and cleanliness, work efficiency, customer service.
Be willing to attend short training courses as necessary.
A ‘can do’ attitude
A very sharp attention to detail
Able to work in a physically demanding warehouse role with manual handling responsibilities
