Crynodeb

Plumpton College seek to appoint a Land-based Support Lecturer who will teach classes across the College, supporting our land-based disciplines in the classroom and in practical areas. The ideal candidate will have a PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification and experience in secondary or further education, with experience in or passion for one of our curriculum areas being advantageous.

This is a new role designed to support our Curriculum Managers and promote high-quality teaching and learning in all curriculum areas in cases of staff absence or other unavailability. The successful candidate will be open to a wide range of teaching/lecturing opportunities across all our curriculum areas, meaning this role will be interesting and engaging, with no two days the same. There will be no requirement for marking or feedback for students unless agreed as part of a longer-term support assignment in a division.

In this position, you will work collaboratively with experienced and progressive Curriculum Managers, enabling you to develop comprehensive understanding of working in Further Education and wider knowledge of the land-based sector. Confident classroom management, efficient time-management and an understanding of SEND provision will be key for successful performance in post.

Our land-based programmes would suit a teacher with experience in STEM, horticulture, animal management, or environmental studies, which will provide a strong foundation for work with these teams. Evidence of high-quality communication skills and strong organisational and problem-solving abilities will be of equal priority for our assessment process. This role is an excellent opportunity to hone your teaching skills by demonstrating your adaptability, flexibility and communication in and outside of the classroom. Over time, this role will take responsibility for a pool of associate lecturers and instructors and manage the development of study skills resources for general college-wide use.

We are open to a year-round or term-time only contract depending on what suits you best, working core hours of 7.30 to 4.00.

For an experienced teacher or lecturer looking for a new direction, this is a role with huge variety – you could be supporting with an equine lesson, covering a class in horticulture or working with butchery or bakery apprentices. Plumpton’s curriculum coverage is extensive, and the successful candidate for this role will have the opportunity to experience life in all our different areas and develop a strong understanding of Further Education and the land-based sector whilst providing an essential service to curriculum management staff and our students.

Qualifications & Experience
We would like to hear from you if you:

Hold a PGCE or equivalent level 4+ teaching qualification
Are confident in using technology to enhance teaching and learning and comfortable utilising a range of different technological provisions in various curriculum areas
Can work independently and handle time-sensitive tasks in a strategic and appropriate manner
Possess knowledge of strategies to recognise and reward efforts and achievements for students in a Further/Higher education setting
Have experience of classroom management and supporting students
Have strong knowledge of SEND and other learning barriers
Are highly organised and have strong time management skills
Have relevant and recent experience in successfully supervising groups of learners aged 14-16 and 16+.
Have worked in, or have understanding of, a further education environment.
