Under the direction of the Head Teacher, the Learning Support Assistant is expected to support the delivery of high quality primary education and learning which effectively meets the needs of children.

Please note that this job is not Career Graded. What this means is that a successful candidate would be employed as either a Qualified or Unqualified Learning Support Assistant. During the selection process, candidates will be assessed to determine whether they meet the person specification criteria of the qualified or unqualified Learning Support Assistant role. This would determine the salary/rate of pay, as well as what duties would be expected of the post holder during their employment. The Job Profile documents at the end of this advertisement describe the qualified and unqualified roles in more detail.

Cunningsburgh Primary School is a non-denominational school located in Cunningsburgh. It provides education from Early Years up to P7 for children from Quarff, Fladdabister and Cunningsburgh in the South Mainland of Shetland. The school is managed by a Head Teacher.

The structure of the school is an Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) Dept with 4 Primary classes - P1/2, P3/4, P4/5 and P5/6/7. The current roll is 79 Primary pupils with a further 30 pupils registered in the ELC Dept.

There are 2 part-time ASN teachers assisted by support staff, as required, to meet school demands. The current Acting Head Teacher is Mrs Fiona Johnson

  • This post is not career graded.
  • Rate of pay shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £1.4808 per hour
  • Temporary Part Time post for 8.3 Hours per Week , 39 weeks per year plus 6.24 weeks (pro rata) paid holiday to be taken during school holidays. Temporary contract for a period of approximately 12 months. This is for the duration of a period of maternity leave, and will terminate following the return to work or resignation of the postholder
  • Preferred candidates will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update prior to a formal offer of employment being made
