Speech and Language Therapist Location: Riverbank / Brookland / Brearley Hall Contract Type: Two days per week 15 hours, fixed term contract (1 year Accountable to: The Speech and Language Therapy Lead / Clinical Lead Salary: £44,962 Full Time Equivalent (NHS Band 6 equivalent) Job Summary Are you a passionate and experienced Speech and Language Therapist looking to make a meaningful impact in specialist SEMH settings? We are seeking a dynamic clinician to join our multidisciplinary team, supporting children and young people with complex social, emotional and communication needs. About the Role You will play a key role in delivering high-quality speech and language therapy across three SEMH schools and care settings. This includes: Conducting specialist assessments and contributing to universal screening processes Completing evidenced based interventions at a specialist, or targeted level with appropriate delegation Supporting staff through training, coaching and collaborative planning Contributing to service development and innovation, including outcome measurement and impact evaluation Working flexibly across education and care environments to meet the diverse needs of our children and young people Maintain accurate records of therapy sessions and outcomes. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including care staff, education staff and the wider clinical team, to ensure holistic support for children and to ensure all relevant parties are kept informed on the childs progress whilst operating within confidentiality guidance To engage in regular clinical and managerial supervision, maintaining an accurate portfolio of learning and reflective practice relevant to the role. To continuously engage in your own continuous professional development and undertake relevant training programmes To maintain departmental quality standards in working practices and be aware of clinical pathways and guidance To attend and participate in professional multidisciplinary meetings as required To adhere to organisational policies and procedures To have a flexible approach in the support of the Speech & Language Therapy team About you: This section details the skills and abilities required for this role. Qualifications & Registrations Essential criteria Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree qualification or equivalent Health and Care Professions Council Licence to Practice Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses Desirable criteria Membership of relevant Clinical Excellence Networks Experience & Knowledge Essential criteria Relevant experience at postgraduate level Experience of supervising, mentoring and supporting others e.g. students and assistants. Skilled in MDT working and confident in adapting communication strategies for different audiences Advanced clinical reasoning in assessing and managing complex speech, language and communication needs Desirable criteria Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools Experience of working with clients who may have challenging behaviours and limited communication Experience in SEMH or specialist education settings Experience of working with children with a variety of neurodevelopmental profiles, including Autism and ADHD Knowledge of trauma informed practice Knowledge of neuroaffirming practice Skills & Abilities Essential criteria Competent IT skills including the use of Word, Excel and PowerPoint Strong written communication skills, including report writing, case studies, and contributions to EHCPs or care plans. Acts in a professional manner Excellent ability to work both independently and as part of a team Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with children from diverse backgrounds. Empathy, patience, and a genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable children. Excellent organisational and time management skills A reflective practitioner with a commitment to equity, inclusion and child-centred practice Access to a vehicle that can be used for business purposes and hold a full and valid driving licence is required for this vacancy. Desirable criteria Confidence in delivering staff training and coaching, including adapting communication strategies for different professional audiences. Flexible and creative approach to delivering therapy across different environments (e.g. classrooms, care homes, outdoor settings).
