About the role
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 40 hours per week
Location(s): Lichfield and surrounding areas
As a Tree Surgeon (Arborist), you will work under the guidance of a Lead Arborist alongside a Junior Arborist across the northern regions. Your role involves preserving, planting, protecting, pruning, and felling trees, hedgerows, and shrubs to the highest standards, ensuring value for money and delivering exceptional customer service.
You will operate a range of tools and machinery safely, respond to emergencies, and maintain the health and safety of both trees and the wider environment. This is a hands-on role where attention to detail, teamwork, and a commitment to best practice are essential.

What we’re looking for
We are seeking a motivated, skilled, and inclusive professional who:
- Has previous experience as an Arborist or Tree Surgeon, including pruning, felling, planting, and maintaining tree health and safety.
- Is skilled in operating and maintaining tools and machinery such as chainsaws, chippers, stump grinders, and aerial lifts.
- Has experience delivering high-quality, customer-focused services.
- Has knowledge of tree species, growth habits, and disease identification.
- Can assess and resolve tree health and safety issues effectively and safely.
- Consistently follows health and safety procedures to protect themselves, colleagues, and the public.
- Has experience operating company vehicles safely; a full UK driving licence is preferred.
Practical / Technical Skills:
- Broad knowledge of trees, shrubs, and pruning technique
- Confident climbing ability and safe working at height
- Understanding of site safety, risk assessment, and complex arboricultural operations
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Competent in using mobile devices (e.g., tablets, smartphones) and Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams
Qualifications and Practical Knowledge
- City & Guilds NPTC/Lantra Qualification in Arboriculture or Horticulture (Level 3)
- IPAF 3a, 3b, and 1b Operator (cherry picker/MEWP)
- CS30 (201/202) – Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross Cutting
- CS31 (203) – Felling Small Trees
- CS32 (301) – Felling Medium Trees
- CS40 (307) – Pruning
- NPTC – Chipper Operations
- Other relevant certification or training in arboriculture, horticulture, or a related discipline (e.g., ISA Certified Arborist or equivalent)
Additional requirements
- A full UK driving licence (trailer entitlement desirable)
- A positive, proactive attitude and commitment to completing work safely and efficiently
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across teams and services
- Commitment to providing inclusive, high-quality customer service
- Resilience, patience, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations
- Willingness to undertake further training and professional development
- A Basic DBS check (provided by us)
