Cloud Engineer (232lw) – National Security (eDV Cleared) - Milton Keynes OR Cheltenham (3 days per week) - £100,000 - £140,000.00

We’re supporting a trusted digital transformation partner to the UK Government and National Security community, in hiring a Cloud Engineer for a high-impact Greenfield programme, providing you with the chance to really make a difference.

DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS RECRUITMENT CONSULTANCY, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO REPRESENT INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE EX MILITARY.

This role suits a technically minded ex-military professional with commercial engineering or DevOps experience who thrives in agile, cutting-edge environments. You’ll be working 3 days on site per week, in either Milton Keynes OR Cheltenham.
You’ll join a flat-structured, collaborative, and fast-paced team, where your initiative and technical curiosity are valued as much as your skillset.
We encourage candidates to apply even if they do not meet every listed requirement. It’s essential to have an active eDV clearance (UKIC)

You’ll design, build, and automate secure cloud environments that underpin sensitive national security operations. This includes -
• Automating application and infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and deployment.
• Working within a multidisciplinary Agile/Scrum team.
• Implementing CI/CD pipelines and containerised solutions.
• Applying security best practices within a highly classified setting.

We’re looking for candidates experienced (or commercially exposed) to some of the following -
• Cloud: AWS (CloudFormation, Terraform) – Azure also considered.
• Automation: CI/CD pipelines (DroneCI ideal), AWS Developer Tools (CodeBuild/CodePipeline).
• Containerisation: Docker, Kubernetes.
• Scripting: Advanced Linux admin and Bash scripting.
• Tools: GitHub / GitLab, Ansible.
• Security: Understanding of best practices – Kubernetes security groups, HTTP headers, mutual authentication, etc.

Ideal for ex-military candidates who’ve transitioned into cloud, platform, or DevOps roles and bring a strong engineering mindset, experience automating and optimising complex systems & confident communication skills – able to collaborate across technical and business teams.

If you’re an ex-military engineer, systems specialist, or technologist ready to make an impact in national security, we’d love to hear from you. Please send a copy of your CV with a note outlining why this would be the ideal opportunity for you, to Liz Walsh at Ex-Mil Recruitment Ltd or by email to liz@ex-mil.co.uk
