KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
1. Actively promote a positive and collaborative workplace culture that supports the Charity’s purpose of Making Life Better and i-care values to increase morale, productivity and performance.
2. Assist in making accessible the archive collections held at the Highland Archive Centre.
3. Assist in the provision of a positive and progressive family history service.
4. Supervise the public searchroom and the Family History Centre as required, and respond to enquiries from the public, council officers and any others.
5. Assist members of the public in accessing catalogues, using microform and online resources.
6. Respond to enquiries by post, telephone, and email relating to local, and family history.
7. Assist in the secure storage, retrieval, and passive conservation of the archival collections held in the Highland Archive Centre.
8. Participate in planned programmes of listing and cataloguing of archive collections under the supervision of professional staff.
9. Contribute to the online presence of the Highland Archive Centre by active use of social media, in particular by contributing to Facebook and web pages.
10. Assist in the preparation of exhibitions and talks relating to the collections held at the Highland Archive Centre.
11. Assist with group visits to the Highland Archive Centre from schools and other organisations and guided tours as required.
12. Compile statistics relating to the work of the Highland Archive Centre.
13. Account for income received in the searchroom and the Family History Centre.
14. Undertake such other administrative duties as may be required, including ordering materials and equipment. Pursue continuous professional development and contribute to the continuous improvement of the Highland Archive & Registration Centre and High Life Highland as a whole.
15. Attend and undertake any training online or in person.
16. Aim to reduce wastage and uphold our environmental values of being as sustainable as possible in all tasks.
17. Assist and support other areas of High Life Highland with particular projects, training or in the event of holidays or sickness working cross-functionally across the Highland Archive & Registration Centre team.
18. Assist the Am Baile Co-ordinator in planned programmes of digitisation, research and storage of images from various collections.
19. Assist the Family Historian by undertaking research using on-line genealogical resources, particularly ScotlandsPeople.
