Crynodeb

We are delighted to advertise a fixed term vacancy for an assistant psychologist until October 2026, this is to support the Clinical Psychology service for cancer patients at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, funded by Macmillan. Your employment will be hosted at QEH where you would join the existing Clinical Health Psychology Department.

Clinical Psychology is highly valued at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. You will be a full member of the department and will contribute to the development of a strong and highly focused department of Clinical Health Psychology.

You will join clinical psychologists who already work within this service, as well as psychologist colleagues in a range of specialities across physical health. Supervision and line management will be provided by a Macmillan clinical psychologist within the department.

We are recruiting across the region to develop psycho-oncology services in each of the 3 Trusts, Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and James Paget University Hospital, as part of a collaborative approach to ensure equity of access for our cancer patients. We would expect the post holders to work closely together to facilitate this.

You will support and enhance the professional psychological care of adults currently or previously under the care of the oncology or palliative care team at QEH.

You will also provide psychological screening, assessment, and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist within the Oncology/Palliative Psychological Speciality.

There will be the opportunity for you to assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics and development of audit and/or research projects, teaching, and project work.

There’s never been a more exciting time to join Team QEH. We’re working on a once in a generation opportunity to build a new state-of-the-art hospital to open in 2030 and we are also carrying out on one of the biggest pieces of digital transformation work we’ve ever undertaken.

Our new electronic patient record (EPR) will replace paper-based patient records from 2026 and will lead to better, safer, joined-up care at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and beyond.

At The QEH we provide a comprehensive range of specialist, acute, obstetrics and community-based services to around 331,000 people across west and north Norfolk, North Cambs and South Lincs.

We are an ambitious organisation that upholds our values of kindness, wellness and fairness. We strive for continuous quality improvement, recently demonstrated in our 2024 CQC maternity inspection rating our services as ‘Good’, and we are proud to be a place to learn and grow through recognised learning and apprenticeships.

We recognise and reward our 4,000 staff and volunteers, priding ourselves on a community atmosphere and positive team spirit. We have approx. 530 beds across 33 wards and have newly built education and training facilities, a range of modern award-winning centres alongside a talented team of people ready to give you a warm welcome. We love working here and think you will too.

Full details of the main responsibilities of this role can be found in the job description and person specification.
