An excellent opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Radiographer with substantial experience in Interventional Radiology to join our friendly multi-disciplinary team working within Radiology at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.
The role will include rotation through the interventional suite, theatres and fluoroscopy.
This is a part time position of 30 hours. Candidates will be expected to participate in our 24/7 interventional on-call rota which includes working some Bank Holidays.
This is a demanding role where excellent technical expertise in all aspects is required to ensure the delivery of a high quality, efficient and professional service. The successful candidates will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, performing radiographic examinations either single handed or as part of a team, whilst ensuring a high standard of radiographic technique and patient care is maintained at all times.
The successful applicants will have responsibility for the organisation of staff and workflow, recognising the global needs of both the department and service provided. Applicants will be expected to use their own initiative and be capable of making decisions in unpredictable circumstances, providing leadership, knowledge and guidance to a team of Radiographers, Nurses, Assistant Practitioners and Radiographic Assistants.

At East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust we support CPD and encourage advanced practice and as such we currently have 11 Advanced Practice Radiographers and a consultant radiographer.

JOB SUMMARY
To carry out all relevant radiographic examinations maintaining a high quality, patient focussed service, supervising qualified and unqualified staff on a daily basis.
To take a lead role in all areas of the General, Fluoroscopy and Interventional Service.
The post holder will be expected to participate in our 7 day, 24 hour working shift rota
As our service is delivered on a 24/7 basis. This includes Bank Holidays and participation in the Interventional Radiology on-call Service.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. To ensure a high quality patient focussed service throughout the department.
1. To ensure the delivery of a professional and expert service in all areas of the department
1. To perform examinations on patients commensurate with a high level of radiographic skill and patient care.
1. To review images and ensure that supplementary imaging procedures/views are considered prior to the patient departure from the department.
1. Ensure a high standard of patient care, both clinical and pastoral commensurate with good practice.
1. Deputise along with other Band 6 colleagues when necessary for the Band 7 radiographers.
1. Participate fully in the extended working day service from 8am to 8pm, Monday to Sunday and work evenings.
8.Participate in the on call system for the Interventional Service.
1. Comply with the Ionising Radiation Regulation 2017, (IRR 17) and the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017, (IRMER 2017) ensuring radiation doses are kept as low as reasonable achievable in line with Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRL).
1. Ensure the safety of patients and staff in all areas of the department.
1. Ensure general cleanliness and tidiness of all clinical areas including the cleaning and disposal of clinical and hazardous waste.
1. To take a lead with the Quality Assurance programme and take part in departmental audit, when necessary.
1. To administer contrast media when required according to department policies and procedures
1. To have sufficient knowledge to assess when the use of contrast media may be contra-indicated and have the ability to assess the patient’s physical condition post injection, to check for any reaction and take appropriate steps if a reaction does occur.
1. To maintain adequate stocks of consumable items.
1. To exercise personal responsibility and make decisions in unpredictable situations.
1. To ensure all aspects of the service are delivered within the departments defined quality standards.
1. To be proactive in the monitoring of the service provided in the department, developing and implementing proposals for improving the service.
