Hours: 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Contract: Fixed Term - Maternity Cover, Term-Time Only
Start: January 2026
UK Applicants only. This role does not offer sponsorship.
We are seeking a passionate, dynamic, and dedicated ASN Primary Teacher to join our fantastic team at Maben House, part of Options Autism, for a fixed-term maternity cover position beginning in January 2026. If you believe in the power of tailored, pupil-centred learning and want to make a meaningful difference, we would love to hear from you.
About the role
As an ASN Primary Teacher, you will deliver a creative, flexible, and therapeutic curriculum designed to support both academic progress and emotional development. You will work closely with a skilled multi-disciplinary team including therapists, teaching assistants, and families, ensuring that each pupil receives the care, support, and challenge they need to thrive.
Your teaching will combine structure, adaptability, and innovation — helping children re-engage with education and reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality, individualised teaching across all primary subjects
Plan and adapt lessons to meet diverse learning needs and Education Plans (EHCPs / Child’s Plan)
Use trauma-informed and autism-friendly approaches to support engagement and progress
Set and maintain high expectations for learning, behaviour, and wellbeing
Track and assess academic and personal development in a meaningful, pupil-centred way
Collaborate with therapists, families, and support staff to achieve joined-up support for each pupil
Create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment
Support the wider school curriculum through enrichment, outdoor learning, or thematic teaching
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for a teacher who is:
Essential:
Full GTCS registration (General Teaching Council for Scotland)
Experienced or confident in teaching pupils with autism and complex learning needs
Skilled at planning and differentiating learning to meet a range of abilities
Calm, resilient, and proactive in managing behaviour and building relationships
Committed to promoting inclusion, safety, and wellbeing at the heart of classroom practice
An excellent communicator and team player
Desirable:
Previous experience in ASN or special school settings
Knowledge of trauma-informed practice and therapeutic approaches to education
Familiarity with the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence (CfE), GIRFEC, and SHANARRI
Experience with positive behaviour support or de-escalation techniques
