We are looking for a kind, reliable, and practical Personal Assistant to support a 78-year-old gentleman who lives independently and manages his own personal care. He has long-term mental health needs that are well maintained, and he values routine, conversation, and a calm home environment. This is a temporary role providing cover from 10th to 21st November 2025, with the possibility of becoming part of a bank team or taking on a more regular position in the future.
The role involves supporting with day-to-day household tasks to help keep things running smoothly. Duties include shopping for food, ready meals, and daily newspapers—he’s a big fan of M&S, so regular trips there are part of the routine. You’ll help prepare simple meals (mainly heating ready meals), make hot drinks when requested, and carry out light domestic duties such as cleaning, laundry, changing bed linen, and keeping the kitchen and bathroom hygienic. You'll also ensure laundry is folded and put away, and rubbish is taken out regularly, including incontinence waste and recycling.
While he enjoys his independence, he benefits from gentle support and one-to-one conversation. He particularly enjoys discussing politics, current events, and working through crossword puzzles, all of which play an important part in maintaining his mental wellbeing. He finds group settings challenging, so your role will focus on providing friendly, individualised support and helping him stay engaged in a way that suits him.
Additional responsibilities include helping to unpack and organise groceries, collecting prescriptions if needed, sorting and filing paperwork, and ensuring that key items like clothing and personal care products are easy for him to access. Most medical and admin appointments are arranged by the main PA, but you may occasionally be asked to accompany him to the GP or assist with small admin tasks if required.
If you’re warm, organised, and happy to support someone in a calm, respectful, and practical way, this could be a great fit. This short-term position offers a valuable opportunity to build a working relationship that may lead to future flexible hours as bank or relief staff.
