As University Hospitals Bristol and Weston (UHBW) has recently expanded the Respiratory service to create a full rotational model across both Bristol and Weston sites, we are pleased to advertise for one Consultant Respiratory Physicians. This post is expected to cover both inpatient and outpatient activity across both sites, which will be determined through the job planning process.
The successful candidate will develop special interests to extend the spectrum of respiratory services offered at both sites and support services currently being developed in the department. The asthma service is a particular area that we wish to recruit to, but other specialist interests could be accommodated. The post holder will undertake general respiratory clinics as well as a specialist interest clinic and support bronchoscopy. There will be inpatient responsibility for the respiratory wards on a rotational basis. The post includes a commitment to the current Weston Consultant on-call rota out of hours.
Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of their CCT and ideally have NHS experience. However, non-UK applicants wishing to apply for specialist registration could be considered on a fixed-term basis.
Consultants are also expected to work with service managers and clinical colleagues to manage their caseload in a flexible way, to ensure clinical, national, and local priorities—such as maximum waiting times for referral to treatment—are achieved.

The successful applicant will have responsibility for the care of the patients entrusted to them. All consultants are expected to have a flexible attitude towards the work of the Directorate.

This post will have 10 programmed activities (PAs). There will be an option to negotiate an increase to up to a maximum of 12 PAs subsequent to appointment, to support additional activities such as research, educational supervision, or subspecialist clinical work, if clear evidence is produced that the workload justifies this. Candidates wishing to be considered for a position with fewer sessions are also welcome to apply.
The successful candidates will be expected to comply with all relevant Trust policies relating to the administration of patient care. This includes working to set timescales for the triage of referrals, the completion of discharge summaries prior to patients being discharged, following the specified process for the management of patients who do not attend (DNA) their appointment or admission, and the completion of all paperwork deemed necessary to support the management of their patients within agreed timescales.

University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) is one of the largest acute Trusts in the country, bringing together a combined workforce of over 13,000 staff and over 100 different clinical services across 10 different sites, serving a core population of more than 500,000 people across South West England. As an equal opportunities employer actively working towards a diverse workforce we aim to recruit and retain a workforce which represents the rich diversity of the local population at all levels and are committed to designing our services around the needs of individual patients and those around them. Anonymous information will be used from your application in order to ensure we’re meeting our pledge.
