We'd like you to join us as a Ward Manager at our service Hunters Moor in Birmingham.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the team on a 6 month fixed term contract, as a Ward Manager within our established specialist team.
At Hunters Moor, we provide specialist Level 2 Neurological Rehabilitation and Neurobehavioural services to people aged over 18 in Birmingham. We're committed to helping every person we support feel safe, happy, empowered enabling them to live the best life possible.

What you'll be working:
37.625 hours on a rota basis.
What you'll be doing:
Through strong clinical leadership, the Ward Manager will promote excellence in nursing care, maintaining and improving clinical standards.
The post holder will ensure that all residents are treated with compassion, dignity, and respect, valuing the diversity of the local community and beyond.
They will be highly visible and accessible.
The Ward Manager's key responsibility is to ensure that clinical care is clinically effective, safe, and delivered to the highest standard to their assigned area.
Clinical Leadership & Standards
Lead the delivery of high-quality, person-centred nursing care, ensuring compliance with ACG standards, clinical governance frameworks, and national regulations.
Maintain a visible and accessible leadership presence, supporting colleagues and acting as a role model for professional, safe, and compassionate practice.
Work collaboratively with the Matron and MDT to maintain and monitor excellent clinical standards and drive continuous improvement in resident care.
Workforce Management & Development
Oversee the effective rostering and deployment of nursing colleagues, ensuring safe staffing levels, appropriate skill mix, and responsiveness to service needs and acuity.
Manage colleague performance through regular appraisals, performance reviews, and addressing underperformance or attendance issues in a timely, supportive manner.
Identify training needs and ensure all mandatory training, clinical competencies, and professional development plans are in place and regularly reviewed.
Ensure a supportive learning environment for students and new colleagues, and monitor the quality of placements and mentoring within the clinical area.
Safety, Risk & Clinical Governance
Ensure a safe and clean care environment through proactive leadership in infection prevention, health and safety, and risk management.
Lead or contribute to incident investigations, including root cause analyses, and implement actions to prevent recurrence and promote organisational learning.
Promote a culture of safety and openness where colleagues are encouraged to raise concerns, and ensure concerns are acted on through appropriate escalation.
Resident Experience & Advocacy
Champion dignity, privacy, and respect in all aspects of care, advocating for residents and ensuring their voices influence service delivery and improvement.
Establish systems for collecting, reviewing, and responding to resident and family feedback to improve the overall care experience.
Lead regular caseload and care reviews with the MDT, ensuring all care plans are up to date, person-centred, and focused on outcomes.
Statutory Compliance & Safeguarding
Ensure all actions and documentation comply with the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), including making timely referrals and maintaining accurate records of assessments and best interest decisions.
Identify and escalate safeguarding concerns in line with national legislation and ACG policies, and act as a key point of contact in multi-agency safeguarding processes.
Ensure colleagues are confident and competent in recognising and responding to issues relating to capacity, consent, and deprivation of liberty.
Service Development & Improvement
Support and lead service improvement initiatives, participating in development programmes that enhance the quality, efficiency, and responsiveness of care.
Work closely with internal and external partners, including NHS bodies and local authorities, to ensure integrated, seamless care and alignment with national targets.
Promote innovation in nursing practice and identify opportunities to develop the nursing contribution within the wider service model.
Resource & Financial Management
Manage nursing resources effectively on a day-to-day basis, including monitoring use of Bank and Agency colleagues and ensuring cost-effective staffing solutions.
Act as an authorised signatory for agreed budgets and resource allocation, ensuring value for money while maintaining care quality and safety.
What you'll have:
- A current NMC Pin registration - RGN
- A legal right to work in the U.K.
- At least 3 years post qualification experience
- Strong clinical experience in tracheostomy and neurorehabilitation essential
