Crynodeb
There are a variety of surgical lists available, and the post will include paediatric theatre sessions, obstetric sessions and emergency or trauma sessions. Paediatric sessions may be in ENT, dental, ophthalmology, urology or general surgery. The post comes with 2.0 SPA sessions per week (based on 10 PAs), and active involvement in the governance, educational and quality improvement activity of the department is expected. There will be opportunities to contribute to all aspects of the departments activities, and those of the wider Trust. Many Consultants take on additional roles within the Trust and regionally. Within the department we have a Deputy Medical Director, Deputy Undergraduate Tutors, a Course Director for BASICS (the regional core trainee teaching programme), a Chair of a regional Critical Care Group and a Course Director for the regional obstetrics course (EASE) which is run at the Trust. Others have taken opportunities to get involved in anaesthetising for charities and to teach anaesthetists and nurses overseas for short periods of time.
