Independent Hate Crime Victim Advocate

Location: London - 2 days in the office, 3 days working from home

Salary: £16-£22 per hour

Contract: 3-month temporary contract with possibility to extend

Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week

About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated and empathetic Independent Hate Crime Victim Advocate to join our specialist advocacy team. You will work directly with LGBT+ people who have experienced hate crime, providing emotional support, practical assistance, and advocacy to help clients feel safe, heard, and empowered.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in supporting victims and survivors, ensuring their voices are represented in statutory and voluntary services, and helping to drive improvements in responses to hate crime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide person-centred, trauma-informed, and empowerment-based support to LGBT+ victims of hate crime.
  • Hold a caseload, offering information, advice, and advocacy to enable clients to make informed choices and access relevant services.
  • Support clients with criminal and civil justice processes, safeguarding, safety planning, and referrals to housing, welfare, or counselling.
  • Work collaboratively with local and national agencies, ensuring clients' needs are recognised and met.
  • Maintain accurate case records and contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision, training, and service development activities.

About You

We're seeking someone with:

  • Experience delivering support services to survivors of hate crime, domestic abuse, or other forms of violence (paid or voluntary).
  • Strong understanding of the experiences and needs of LGBT+ communities, particularly those affected by discrimination, abuse, and intersectional disadvantage.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding practice for children and adults-at-risk.
  • Ability to manage a busy caseload, prioritise under pressure, and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and partnership-building skills.

Why Join Us?

  • Play a direct role in improving safety and outcomes for LGBT+ survivors of hate crime.
  • Work as part of a passionate and supportive specialist team.
  • Hybrid working arrangements (2 days in the central London office).
  • Opportunities for training, development, and involvement in wider anti-violence initiatives.
