Welfare and Engagement Advisor
Do you have experience working with and engaging young people? We are looking for a new Welfare & Engagement Adviser here at Lewisham College. The role requires someone who has experience working with young people and understands the challenges and risks they face in an urban context such as London. You will have a positive attitude and the skills to be able to work in a busy college Student Services environment with multiple priorities.
Welfare and Engagement Advisers play a leading role in ensuring the personal development of students through promoting awareness of their role in modern society and through the provision of appropriate personal support that aims to remove barriers to achievement and maximise potential. Their aim is to develop excellent attitudes to learning, supporting students to become self-confident and resilient, and know that they have the potential to be a successful student which will have a strong, positive impact on their progress. They will work closely with the Learner Experience and Curriculum teams to maximise student engagement and success.
The successful post holders will be expected to:
- Support students with applying for financial assistance such as the bursary, travel and childcare
- Liaise with curriculum teams to target and provide pastoral and welfare support, dealing with an allocated caseload of students needing extra support, so that students develop the confidence and resilience needed to succeed.
- Act as part of the safeguarding team through the identification of students at risk and needing support
- Support the preparation of students for progression within and from the College
- Contribute to the planning and delivery of enrichment activities and workshops so that students develop their understanding of citizenship, British Values, physical and mental health and the importance of personal, behavioural and social skills
- Encourage student engagement participation in wider College life, including enrichment and social action, equipping them with the skills and attributes needed in modern society
- Ensure all activities are accurately tracked on the system in a timely manner.
