In December 2021 Baroness Heather Hallett, a retired Appeal Court judge, was appointed by the Prime Minister as Chair of the independent public inquiry into the Covid-19 pandemic.

The UK Covid-19 Inquiry was formally established with full powers under the Inquiries Act 2005 in June 2022. The Inquiry sits independently of the Government with the Cabinet Office acting as the sponsoring department.

Following an initial set up phase the Inquiry began hearing evidence in May 2023. Our team is working to examine the UK’s response to and impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, and learn lessons for the future. The Inquiry’s work is guided by its Terms of Reference. We are a values driven organisation, and we aim to put our values of fairness, openness, compassion and inclusion at the heart of everything we do.

This is an exciting role, offering the opportunity to be part of an innovative team, and to help deliver a public inquiry that is unprecedented in terms of scope and depth.

Further information about the Inquiry can be found on the UK Covid-19 Inquiry website.

About The Team

We are looking for a Strategic Resourcing Support Officer to join our HR & Business Operations team and help shape the future of our workforce.

As we move towards the conclusion of the UK Covid-19 Inquiry, we are transitioning to more agile ways of resourcing, focusing on retaining and developing our internal talent, and ensuring we are well-resourced to meet key milestones. This role plays a key part in supporting the delivery of this ambition.

The HR & Business Operations team is a collaborative and experienced team with a broad remit that spans talent, learning and development, recruitment and operations, strategic resourcing and workforce planning. We deliver people-focused solutions that directly enable the Inquiry to meet its evolving priorities.

Our team plays a key role in ensuring the Inquiry has the right people, in the right roles, at the right time, supporting immediate delivery and longer-term capability. As a close-knit unit, we take pride in fostering a supportive culture where learning and development are actively encouraged and every team member is empowered to contribute to meaningful change.

About The Role

Working closely with the Workforce Planning Lead, the postholder will support the development and day-to-day coordination of our internal internal mobility programmes, and other strategic people initiatives. This is an exciting opportunity for someone interested in HR, Strategic resourcing and Data analysis. It will also give you exposure to workforce planning.

Some of the responsibilities include:

  • Strategic resourcing initiatives - Provide operational support across strategic workforce priorities, including deployment, succession planning, and workforce planning
  • Development and maintenance of guidance - Draft and maintain accessible and user-friendly guidance, ensuring they are published and available on the right platforms, including the intranet
  • Workforce Data and Reporting - Working collaboratively with the Business Operations team to maintain accurate workforce data, monitor trends and support with monthly reporting for Board and Payroll forecasting.
  • Implementation and maintenance of the Flexible resourcing pool - Support the development and coordination of a flexible resourcing pool, helping to map processes, match skills to demand and ensure timely deployment of staff
  • Administrative support to Workforce and Succession planning activities - Provide coordination and administrative support for workforce planning and succession planning exercises, including data collation and meeting logistics.
  • Contribute to the delivery of people strategies - Support broader HR and organisational development projects, such as the implementation of the People Survey Action plan or capability building initiatives.
