Purpose of job To be responsible to Greenwich Central AMHP Team, Team Manager for the following: In accordance with the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007), to undertake the duties and responsibilities placed on Approved Mental Health Professionals in England. The Mental Health (Approved Mental Health Professionals) (Approval) (England) Regulations 2008. Greenwich AMHP Standard Operating Procedures (May 2022) lays out detailed guidance on the professional competencies and requirements associated with the AMHP role within Royal Greenwich Mental Health Service. In accordance with the Care Act 2014, to respond to requests for assessment for adults who present with care and support needs, focussing on outcomes to improve a persons wellbeing and prevent or reduce needs. To undertake the role of Safeguarding Adults Manager, Enquiry Officer, MARAC representative, Think Family Champion, and all other forms of safeguarding work. Through this providing consultation and support to designated teams. To provide professional social work or AMHP consultation, advice, oversight, and guidance on statutory functions to multidisciplinary teams and external organisations. To lead on the delivery of strengths based person centred social work practice in mental health. To support and co-work complex cases which require Advanced Practitioner/AMHP input. To be accountable to AMHP Team Manager and Lead Social Worker for the professional supervision and appraisal mechanisms of designated social workers and AMHPs working across all Community Mental Health Teams. To undertake the role and responsibilities of Practice Educator, Assessor and Mentor to students undertaking professional social work training, newly qualified social workers on the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment and trainee AMHPs undertaking the MA in Advanced Mental Health Practice programme. To coordinate professional teaching and learning opportunities and activities to help lift and develop the profile of social work/AMHP practice, performance, and efficiency across all service areas. To ensure that all work undertaken complies with Council policies and procedures and that the Councils statutory obligations are met. To take responsibility for maintaining own registration with the professional regulator (Social Work England). Conducting the roles and functions of an Advanced Practitioner/Senior Social Worker, as outlined in the Knowledge & Skills Statements for Social Workers in Adults Services and underpinned by the Professional Capabilities Framework for Social Workers. Main duties of the post 1. To respond to all requests for Mental Health Act assessment daytime and out of hours. 2. To contribute to the delivery, development, and modernisation of the 24 hour AMHP service through a model of continuous service improvement. 3. To contribute to the development and setting of standards and priorities promoting quality management standards and the effective implementation and monitoring of the Greenwich AMHP Standard Operating Procedures. 4. To contribute to the development, maintenance and updating of management information systems in accordance with Directorate policies and statutory procedures. 5. To provide professional supervision for up to three members of staff, facilitate peer group supervision and post assessment supervision to designated social work/AMHP members of the community mental health teams on a regular basis, ensuring developmental needs of social workers is met across the teams. 6. To ensure the effective planning and coordination of services in response to requests for AMHP intervention, is proportionate, the least restrictive and meets the criteria for Mental Health Act assessment. 7. To work creatively with Adults, their families, and carers and collaboratively with other professionals. To ensure that assessments are conducted using strength based person centred principles, in conjunction with other agencies as appropriate. 8. To represent the department and maintain close working arrangements with key stakeholders and agencies towards the development of effective working practices. 9. To take delegated responsibility for the setting of individual standards, priorities, and targets and for the allocation of work within the service. 10. To ensure that management and performance information is routinely collated and discussed and that all staff assume responsibility for compliance with recording and reporting systems. 11. To ensure that work undertaken actively promotes the Councils equal opportunities policy in relation to service delivery and personal practice. 12. To prepare and present written reports and undertake appropriate written recording that can withstand legal scrutiny and is in line with Council procedures. 13. To recruit staff in conjunction with Team Managers, Lived Experience Practitioners, and other professional colleagues. 14. To deputise for the Team Manager as appropriate including representing the team on project groups, steering groups, liaison, or multiagency meetings as determined by the Team Manager and/or Lead Social Worker. 15. To undertake tasks related to case file audits and quality assurance activity. To collaborate with the Team Manager to implement outcome measures as appropriate. 16. To ensure a consistent management response through collective managerial responsibility for designated parts of the service. 17. To take a leading role and/or participate in practice development, promotion and example of good practice and quality standards within and across external organisations. 18. To ensure that social work/AMHP interventions and service delivery remains strengths based person centred and focused on the most appropriate least restrictive outcomes for service users, patients, and carers. 19. To be responsible for the management of own workload and priorities. 20. To participate and attend training as required and to take responsibility for ones own training and professional development needs, this may include maintaining a portfolio of professional practice to meet the requirements of AMHP re-approval. 21. To collaborate closely with staff and partner agencies in achieving the promotion of independence for users at all stages of service delivery. 22. To Chair multi-disciplinary case conference/meetings to facilitate decision making processes in appropriate cases as directed by the Team Manager. 23. To keep abreast of changes to local and national policies, procedures and legislation affecting current and future service delivery and disseminate this information across the team/s. Use information gathered concerning changes to legislation, new initiatives, and directives to contribute to the planning and review of policy and practice developments within the service. 24. To participate in any duty or management cover rotas to meet the needs of the service. 25. To manage where necessary highly complex cases where there is a serious risk of harm or breakdown, assessing and managing ability or risk. 26. To function as safeguarding adults manager or to undertake or assist in the investigation of safeguarding adults cases as appropriate and as directed by the Team Manager. 27. To be responsible for undertaking employee investigations, hearings and appeals in line with the RBG and Oxleas policies and procedures. 28. To maintain continuous and up to date advanced practice, staff working out of hours only will be expected to undertake one week of daytime shifts in each 3 month period, as directed by the Team Manager. 29. To attend supervision as directed by the Team Manager. 30. In discharging the duties of the post to have due regard to the provision of Health and Safety at Work legislation. 31. To undertake any other duties as required within the remit and grading of the post.
