Job Title: Female Personal Assistant – Job Share Welcome
In line with the Equality Act 2010, this role requires a female applicant due to the nature of personal care duties.
Responsible to: The Employer
Hours: 18 hrs per week
Work Pattern: Monday, Wednesday & Friday: 05:45 – 08:15 (7.5 hours total) – Swimming Support
An additional 10.5 hours per week to be worked flexibly across the week, primarily on Fridays. The employer will provide advance notice of your working rota. Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the employer.
Hourly Rate of Pay: £12.21 per hour.
Based at: Cheadle ST10 1** and the local community.
Job Purpose
This role involves supporting a chatty, outgoing, fun, and friendly 33-year-old woman whose health needs can vary from day to day due to Brittle Bone Disease. She uses a wheelchair, is highly independent, lives at home with her mother, and works. The successful candidate will need to be adaptable and responsive to changes in her needs.
Main Duties
Swimming Support
The Personal Assistant should communicate each step and ensure the employer is ready for swimming, including assisting with changing, personal care, and using towels as needed.
Check the lift chair is safe, clean, and working.
Position the wheelchair close, apply brakes, and align seat heights.
Assist the transfer safely, respecting the employer’s independence.
Secure safety straps and check comfort.
Lower into the pool slowly, keeping the employer informed.
Release straps once seated in the water and assist as needed.
Stay nearby for support during swimming or have the option to swim on Fridays.
Reverse the process to exit the pool safely.
Assist the employer with showering, drying, dressing, and ensuring comfort after the swim.
You will be expected to provide additional support as needed while assisting during swimming sessions.
For swimming sessions, the Personal Assistant’s working hours start and finish at the employer’s home. The employer’s own vehicle can be used to transport both the employer and the Personal Assistant to and from the pool.
When the employer is unable to attend swimming, the Personal Assistant will be expected to provide care and support at home or in the community.
Daily Living Support
The Personal Assistant will provide support to the employer with a range of daily living tasks, including but not limited to:
Assistance with personal care and daily routines
Walking and caring for the dogs
Housework and maintaining a clean, safe home environment.
Shopping and collecting prescriptions.
Meal preparation and preparing packed lunches for work.
Ensuring clothes and bedding are ready for the next day.
Supporting the employer with appointments
Facilitating activities in the community
Providing support with any other tasks as reasonably requested by the employer within the scope of the role.
Essential:
Female applicant (required for personal care duties under the Equality Act 2010)
Experience supporting adults with physical disabilities or similar care needs.
Ability to provide personal care sensitively and safely.
Confident with mobility support.
Flexible, reliable, and adaptable to changing needs.
Good communication and organisational skills
Comfortable supporting activities at home and in the community
Full Driving licence and ability to use employer’s vehicle.
Desirable:
Experience with swimming or hydrotherapy support
First Aid training or willingness to train.

Special Conditions
Full comprehensive vehicle insurance with business use is required before escorting the employer; costs are not covered.
Your vehicle must be roadworthy with a current MOT, and you must hold a valid driving licence and inform the employer of any changes. Loss of licence may affect employment.
Employment is subject to satisfactory references and an enhanced DBS check (at no cost to you).
A 6-month probationary period applies.
