Job Title: Technical Buyer (Electrical) - Electrical Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D)
Location: Based out of Leeds or Derby office (Hybrid)
Contract Length: 6-12 months
Contract Type: Inside IR35

Role Overview:

The Technical Buyer will support the project delivery teams by procuring critical electrical equipment, components, and services within the electrical power transmission and distribution (T&D) sector. You will be responsible for the end-to-end procurement lifecycle including sourcing, negotiating, contracting, and supplier management, ensuring compliance with project requirements and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Source and procure electrical equipment and services for power transmission and distribution projects (e.g., switchgear, transformers, cables, protection systems, substations, overhead lines).

  • Collaborate with engineering and project management teams to ensure procurement aligns with technical specifications, delivery timelines, and budgets.

  • Issue RFQs, evaluate bids (technical and commercial), and lead supplier negotiations.

  • Prepare and manage purchase orders and procurement contracts in line with project requirements and company policies.

  • Maintain supplier relationships, monitor performance, and support resolution of any technical or supply issues.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, standards, and HSEQ policies.

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and contribute to continuous improvement in the supply chain.

  • Provide accurate procurement reporting and contribute to project progress updates.

Required Experience & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Buyer / Procurement Specialist within electrical engineering procurement.

  • Strong knowledge of technical procurement of electrical equipment and services is a bonus (HV/MV components, GIS/AIS switchgear, transformers, cables, substations, etc.).

  • Experience working on large capital projects (EPC, turnkey, or framework contracts) is highly desirable.

  • Strong commercial negotiation skills and understanding of contract terms (NEC, FIDIC, or equivalent desirable).

  • Proficient in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar) and MS Office tools.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.

  • Flexible, self-motivated, and able to manage workload across multiple projects.
