Help Maintain One of Kent's Most Iconic Coastal Sites

Love working outdoors? Handy with tools? Want to be part of a close-knit team maintaining real infrastructure on the UK's stunning southeast coast?

We're looking for a Maintenance Operative to join the Port and Harbour team in Ramsgate, supporting the upkeep and repair of essential maritime infrastructure.

This is not a desk job - you'll be on the water, on the quay, and in the workshop, helping maintain and repair everything from pontoons to navigation aids.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Maintaining pontoons, fenders, ladders, handrails, walkways, fencing, and other harbour assets
  • Workshop fabrication using wood, metal, fibreglass and basic plumbing
  • Supporting buoy and navigation aid maintenance
  • Assisting with electrical installations alongside engineers
  • Using tools, plant, and forklifts (up to 5 tonnes) for maintenance tasks
  • Reporting faults and keeping accurate maintenance records
  • Taking part in emergency call-out responses when required

What You'll Need to Succeed

Must-Haves:

  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Strong hands-on skills in maintenance, construction, or fabrication
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Reliable, flexible, and team-oriented

Desirable:

  • Welding, cutting, or grinding skills
  • Forklift Licence (B1 - up to 5 tonnes) - desirable
  • Familiar with slinging/banksman, MEWP, PASMA or scaffold systems
  • Manual handling and abrasive wheels training
  • Powerboat Level 2 or Basic Sea Survival certification
  • Electrical/plumbing experience

Why This Role?

✔ Work on the front line of maritime maintenance
✔ Every day brings new tasks - hands-on, practical, and rewarding
✔ Be part of a team maintaining a working harbour with historical importance
✔ Grow your skills in marine infrastructure, fabrication, and plant operation
Job variety, outdoor work, and meaningful impact

⚠️ Work Environment

This is a physically active, outdoor role. Expect to work in all weather - including cold, wet, or windy conditions. You'll operate across docks, pontoons, and marine areas. Flexibility for tidal windows and emergency call-outs is essential.

‍♂️ Ready to Get Started?

If you're a practical person with the right skills and a passion for working outdoors, this is a fantastic opportunity to play a vital role in maintaining one of the south coast's key port locations.

APPLY NOW and help keep Ramsgate's Port and Harbour in top condition.
