We are currently recruiting for a Children’s Home Registered Manager to join our dedicated childcare team.
The registered manager for a children's home in England is the individual directly responsible for the home's operation and the safety and wellbeing of the children it cares for, requiring registration with Ofsted.
Key duties include leading the staff team, managing finances, ensuring compliance with legislation and quality standards, and maintaining detailed records to provide outstanding care and support that meets the individual needs of each child.
Responsibilities & Duties
• Child Safeguarding: Take overall responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of all children living in the home.
• Leadership & Management: Lead, inspire, and supervise the staff team, conducting regular supervisions, appraisals, and performance management.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the home operates in line with all relevant legislation, such as the Children Act and the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, and adhere to Ofsted guidelines and recommendations.
• Financial & Operational Oversight: Manage the service's finances, including budgets, expenditure, and petty cash systems, and ensure accurate record-keeping.
• Care & Support: Develop and implement person-centred childcare, ensuring the provision of tailored support to meet each young person's strengths and aspirations.
• Staff Development: Facilitate staff training, provide mentorship, and ensure a robust induction and probationary period for new staff.
Registration & Qualifications
Ofsted Registration: To become a registered manager, you must apply to and be registered by Ofsted, who are the registration authority for children's homes in England.
Managerial Expertise
At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role.
You must demonstrate the necessary knowledge, skills, and experience to meet Ofsted's registration criteria.
Skills & Qualities
• Leadership: Ability to direct and motivate staff effectively.
• Empathy: High levels of empathy to understand and support children and staff.
• Resilience: Ability to remain calm under pressure and inspire positivity when facing challenges.
• Communication: Strong communication skills for liaising with staff, authorities, and other professionals.
This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check and references.
