School Caretaker (Weekends)

My client is seeking a Caretaker to join a school in the Chester area. This is a part-time, permanent role working 23.5 hours per week, all year round, across Saturday, Sunday, and Monday each week.

Salary: £16,684 (based on 23.5 hours per week, all year round)

Working Hours:
• Saturday: 8:30am – 6:30pm
• Sunday: 9:00am – 4:30pm
• Monday: 7:30am – 4:00pm

Key Duties:
• Opening and locking up all school buildings, ensuring the site is secure and alarms are set correctly.
• Meeting and greeting hirers and visitors, providing support to ensure a positive experience.
• Ensuring hirers and visitors comply with all school guidelines and hire agreement rules.
• Carrying out janitorial tasks, including litter collection, bin emptying, and general site tidiness.
• Undertaking cleaning duties such as mopping, vacuuming, and surface cleaning.
• Preparing facilities for school events, including moving and setting up furniture and equipment.
• Handling deliveries and distributing packages/equipment across departments.
• Performing daily maintenance checks (heating, lighting, buildings, equipment) and reporting issues.
• Completing Health & Safety checks, including fire safety and compliance logs.
• Supervising and supporting external contractors while on site.
• Driving the school minibuses (training provided).
• Carrying out any other reasonable duties as required.

Person Specification:
We are looking for a proactive, reliable, and flexible individual to join our Estates Team. The successful candidate will take pride in maintaining the school’s facilities and historic environment.

Experience / Qualifications:
• Previous caretaking, facilities, or cleaning experience desirable.
• Good working knowledge of Health & Safety (essential).
• Full UK driving licence (essential).
• Basic Health & Safety / First Aid qualification (desirable).
• Knowledge of COSHH regulations (desirable).

• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Punctual, reliable, and able to work on own initiative.
• Discreet and able to handle confidential information appropriately.
• Adaptable, flexible, and willing to support a wide range of school tasks.
• Commitment to training and professional development.
