JOB DESCRIPTION
Personal Assistant
A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF
I’m a new mum living in the Canton area of Cardiff. I have a combination of long-term health conditions affecting my spine and energy levels, and may be recovering from spinal surgery soon. I use a power wheelchair for longer distances outdoors to pace my energy. I enjoy art, photography, audiobooks and nature. I’m bilingual in English and French. I’m looking for a personal assistant to support me in looking after my baby and help me manage day to day life at home. We ask visitors to wear high-filtration masks (provided) to keep us all healthy from infection because of my vulnerability as well as that of our new born.
PURPOSE OF JOB
To provide hands-on assistance with caring for my baby and supporting me in tasks that are physically demanding on my arms and neck or which are energy consuming. This will include safe handling of baby to help me not aggravate my hand and arm symptoms, batch cooking, and support with my own personal care where needed.
PLACE OF WORK
My home and occasional local errands.
HOURS OF WORK
21 hours per week on weekdays.
Times and days will be discussed at interview.
RATE OF PAY
£14.75
TASKS INVOLVED
Supporting me to safely handle baby.
Light household tasks such as sterilising milk pump parts, bottles, keeping key baby areas tidy.
Batch cooking or meal prep.
Supporting with personal care tasks on days when pain or fatigue are high.
Occasional errands such as collecting prescriptions or occasional outings with baby and I.
Any other reasonable tasks that help reduce my physical strain and maintain a calm home environment.
TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED
Someone who is kind, calm and able to work in a gentle way around a new born while following direction.
Someone with good communication skills.
Someone who is reliable and can use their own initiative.
Someone who is comfortable with pets (we have two indoor cats).
Someone who is very happy to consistently wear a high filtration face mask in my home during work hours.
Someone who has experience with babies, or willingness to learn safe handling techniques.
Someone who is discreet and able to maintain confidentiality.
ABOUT THE JOB
Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A probation period will be necessary in the first instance. Wages will be paid 4 weekly. You will receive 5.6 weeks paid holiday (pro rata). You will be required to apply for a DBS check at no expense to you.
Please Note: Dewis Centre for Independent Living is acting on behalf of a third party and will not be your employer or be liable for any issues arising out of your employment should you be offered employment.
Thank you.
