Falkirk Council is a lead local authority, providing a comprehensive recycling and waste collection service to our householders and commercial customers alike.

As Waste Manager you’ll take overall responsibility for managing a dedicated team to further develop the service, managing a significant revenue and capital budget. The Council operates its own collection service, 2 Household Waste Recycling Centres, a Material Recovery Facility and has long-term contract provision of an Energy from Waste Facility.

The Council is in a strong position to meet future legislative challenges, and meet the opportunities presented through programmes such as the Extended Producer Responsibility Scheme.

Waste Services is a high profile and valued service. It’s essential that you can manage the expectations of our customers and stakeholders including elected members. As well as bringing the relevant technical and professional qualifications and experience. We expect that you will be educated to degree standard (or equivalent), and that you already have senior management experience in a related setting. Accomplished people management skills are an essential attribute for the postholder.

You will have excellent organisational and mentoring skills, along with experience of managing a team and associated budgets. You will be IT literate, have good interpersonal and report writing skills, with an ability to work as part of a wider management team.

You are required to be flexible, innovative and reactive to public demands and pressures.
