Crynodeb

Reading School is seeking to engage a qualified, experienced, and enthusiastic Violin Teacher (peripatetic) from November 2025. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator and be able to work effectively with both beginners and advanced musicians.

Music is a large part of the Reading School ethos and holds a prominent and important position within school life. The department boasts a wide variety of instrumental ensembles and a strong sense of community. The standard of musicianship at the school is high - with a number of students having already achieved upper-level grades and Diplomas – and the boys are incredibly enthusiastic and keen to learn!

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record of delivering effective and engaging music lessons to students of varying skill levels, from beginners to Diploma level. They should possess a breadth of repertoire knowledge and be capable of guiding GCSE and A-level music students in choosing suitable pieces for coursework recitals. Additionally, they should have a proven history of helping students achieve music grades through a recognised accreditation board.

At Reading School, we have a clear educational philosophy and a deeply rooted commitment to social mobility. In all we do we seek to nurture character and develop academic excellence, and we know that what we do really matters. More than 10% of our Year 7 students come from disadvantaged backgrounds and we are proud of the difference that we make. In 2025, the school was rated the Sunday Times South East State School of the Year.

We are a short walk from central Reading and close to transport links. Reading is a diverse place to live with arts, culture and heritage at the heart of the town.

The post holder will be engaged on a self-employed basis and initially expected to be available for at least a half day per week, term time only. They will be responsible for creating their own timetable, communicating necessary information in a timely manner to students and parents, and teach weekly-rotating lessons of 30-minutes to their pupils.

Whilst we follow the same Safer Recruitment process for peripatetic teachers as for employed staff, the contract in relation to music lessons will be between the peripatetic teacher and parents.

To conform with our Safer Recruitment process, all applicants must complete an application via our recruitment portal. Links to the portal can be found on our website:
