This role is offered on a Variable Hours contract for services, giving you the flexibility to choose whether to accept work offered to you. We’ll provide an approximate number of hours you may be asked to work, however there is no obligation for work to be offered, and there’s no obligation for you to accept the work offered.
The Opportunity
You will play a key role in supporting our learners to reach their full potential. You will work closely with your manager to prepare and deliver high-quality teaching and instruction to both individuals and groups, whether in a classroom, workshop, or other learning environment. Your approach will be responsive to the diverse needs of learners, including those with disabilities, ensuring that each student receives the guidance, support, and encouragement required to progress in their studies, personal development, and independence.
You will be responsible for planning and delivering sessions across the curriculum, preparing suitable teaching materials, and selecting appropriate resources that meet individual learning goals. You will also contribute to the assessment of learners’ work, helping to track their progress and ensuring that records and documentation remain accurate and up to date. A key part of your role will involve carrying out initial assessments and supporting the development and review of individual learning plans, tailoring learning experiences to meet the needs of a wide range of learners.
Beyond classroom delivery, you will actively contribute to departmental activities such as learner interviews, enrolments, open evenings, parent/carer events, and transition days. You may also attend meetings with external agencies and occasionally be required to work evenings or weekends. In addition, you will support the organisation of drop-in learning areas and provide cover for colleagues where required, maintaining a consistent and supportive environment for learners.
Central to your role will be the promotion of positive working relationships and the creation of an inclusive, safe, and engaging learning environment. You will take responsibility for delivering health and safety instruction where necessary and ensuring that all learners, including those with disabilities, feel supported and empowered in their journey. Your contribution will help to provide students with a meaningful learning experience, preparing them for the next stage in their education, employment, or independent living.

Ideally, you will be supportive and learner-focused, always putting students at the heart of what you do. You will adapt your approach to meet the needs of individuals, including those with learning difficulties or disabilities, and encourage every learner to achieve their personal goals. Your previous experience in an educational setting will give you the confidence to engage learners effectively and provide meaningful support.
You will bring strong organisational skills and a flexible approach, enabling you to plan and deliver engaging sessions across a range of settings. At the same time, you will be comfortable responding to changing priorities, whether that means providing cover for a colleague or supporting drop-in sessions. Your experience of working with learners who have a learning difficulty or disability will help you tailor your methods to ensure that all students are included and able to progress.
Your ability to communicate clearly and effectively will allow you to build positive relationships with learners, colleagues, parents and carers, as well as external partners. You will also be confident in contributing to reviews, reports, and departmental events.
You will take pride in creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment where every learner feels valued and supported. By carrying out assessments, monitoring progress, and keeping accurate records, you will ensure that learners are supported in moving forward in their education, employment, or independent living.
Collaboration will be important in this role, and you will enjoy working as part of a team, sharing good practice, and contributing to the wider life of the department and college.
