Support For Learning Teacher
Preston Street Primary School

Salary: £33,594 - £50,589 (pro rata for part time)
Hours: 23.1 per week

Monday to Wednesday

The teacher appointed to this post will be expected to have a sound knowledge of current trends in effective learning and teaching, have experience of teaching across a wide range of classes and have the knowledge and skills to identify and support children with a range of Additional Support Needs.

This will involve working as part of a team to create effective learning environments to support the learning of individuals and groups of children.

As the Support for Learning Teacher your role is to support your school(s) in providing quality learning for all children and in particular those with Additional Support Needs. In doing so you will carry out the roles of Consultation, Direct Teaching, Co-operative Teaching and Specialist Services including assessment and Staff Development.

You will be supported in school by the Head Teacher and with regular staff development opportunities in the learning community and beyond.

You will:

Provide specialist advice and consultancy to classroom teachers on Support for Learning issues e.g. inclusion, teaching/learning approaches for children with ASN.

* Work collaboratively with school management staff and ASN Outreach Service on the most appropriate ways for the school to provide support for learning.

* Liaise closely with Psychological Services and other relevant specialist agencies.

* Provide direct intervention with individuals and groups of children and young people as and when appropriate.

* Identify resources and develop teaching materials to promote learning in an appropriate context.

* Promote effective transitions: entry into early years classes, transfer into P1, class to class and into Secondary School.

* Teach co-operatively with classroom teachers on a planned basis.

* Work collaboratively with Support for Learning Assistants on a planned basis to support children's learning.

* Work with colleagues to maintain positive links with parents.

* Work with colleagues to ensure that the views of children are enabled, represented and taken into account in planning.

* Gather information and carry out assessment to identify the learning needs of children.

* Support the Staged Intervention Process including contributing to the development of Child's Plans and CSPs.

* Prepare reports and participate in review and planning meetings as appropriate.

* Participate in, and contribute to, staff development specific to ASN

* Maintain contact with local and national sources of information and expertise.

* Maintain a reflective CPD record to evaluate and continue to develop professional knowledge and skills.

Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
