Site Agent / Site Manager - Civil Engineering - Polegate (East Sussex)

A Leading Regional civil engineering contractor are recruiting a Site Agent / Site Manager to join their busy Southeastern Division.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience of delivering civil engineering projects.

You will be required to make decisions, motivate the team and drive the project towards a timely and profitable finish.

Starting early November 2025, the successful individual will be deployed in the Polegate area of East Sussex where they will be tasked with overseeing the construction of a large surface water pumping station and associated civil engineering works which will comprise earthworks, piling works, RC works etc. The company will be instructing a specialist concrete subcontractor to deliver some of these works although they will have some of their own men on site so there will be both direct labour and subcontractor management.

This project is valued at circa £1.5m and has an anticipated duration of at least 6 months with future projects in nearby Lancing and Staplefield for those preferring permanent employment.

The company are currently open to applications from those seeking both permanent and freelance opportunities.

Typically, the company deliver projects in the following sectors;

  • Highways and Bridges

  • Development Infrastructure
  • Flood Alleviation schemes
  • Marine and Coastal Projects

Duties include:

  • Management of site staff operatives and sub-contractors.
  • Preparing and monitoring programmes of work
  • Provide method statements, hazard risk assessments and project management plans.
  • Understand tender allowances and monitor contract costs against agreed budgets.
  • Manage design co-ordination.
  • Assessment and engagement of sub-contractors.
  • Understand and administer contract change.
  • Inform, consult, and involve local groups as necessary.
  • Foster good relations and reputation with clients.
  • Promote and ensure all work complies with safety, quality and environmental policies and the requirements of the company procedures.
  • Ordering plant, labour and materials
  • Leading toolbox talks, daily briefings and site inductions
  • Working with the visiting Project Manager and commercial team to raise early warning notices
  • Promote the highest levels of health and safety on site
  • Liaise with stakeholders on public facing projects
  • Ensure your work force is working safely, effectively and efficiently
  • Reading drawings with the site engineer to coordinate gangs and overcome design difficulties
  • Ensure risk assessments and method statements and being adhered to
