We’re a small, growing UK company. We’re appointing our first HR/immigration compliance lead to build an audit-ready HR function and run our UK sponsor licence operations.Role structure (for UKVI compliance)
This role: Key Contact + Primary Level 1 User on the Sponsor Management System (SMS)
What you’ll do
Own day-to-day SMS activity as primary L1: keep licence details current, assign CoS, and report notifiable changes within required deadlines.
Build a lightweight HR stack (e.g., BreatheHR or Sage) covering: Right-to-Work checks (share codes), Appendix D records, absence logs, and contact-details register.
Prepare for potential UKVI audits: evidence pack, mock audit, remediation log, and a rolling compliance calendar.
Draft concise core policies: RTW, absence, data retention/GDPR, probation/onboarding.
Liaise with immigration advisers/solicitors when needed and coach managers on basic compliance do’s/don’ts.
Essential requirements (must-have)
- UK-based and able to be our internal (employee/office-holder) Primary Level 1 User.
- Settled worker status (e.g., British/Irish citizen or ILR) and able to provide a National Insurance number.
- Hands-on experience with Sponsor Management System (SMS), Certificates of Sponsorship (CoS), Right-to-Work checks, and Appendix D record-keeping.
- High attention to detail, strong documentation habits, and confidentiality.
Nice to have
- You have independently led a successful Skilled Worker sponsor licence application.
- Experience rolling out a micro-HRIS (e.g., BreatheHR) and creating simple, practical HR policies.
First 30 days – deliverables
- HRIS lives with RTW workflow and Appendix D folder structure.
- Policy mini-pack (RTW, absence, data retention/GDPR, probation).
- Compliance calendar + mock audit with actions.
- SMS hygiene review + reporting templates.
How to apply

with brief answers to:
Confirm your settled status (e.g., British/Irish/ILR).
An SMS change you reported and the deadline that applied.
How you structure Appendix D evidence.
Your hourly rate expectation and earliest start date.
