The Role

Chalk Education are working in partnership with a client school in Wavertree to recruit an Interim SENCO and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).

In this role, you will provide operational support to the Headteacher and Deputy Head in the strategic leadership of SEND and Safeguarding. You will champion the wellbeing and development of all pupils, ensuring their academic, emotional, and social needs are met within a nurturing, inclusive environment.

You will:
- Work alongside the existing SENCO to lead SEND provision.
- Support the Deputy Headteacher (Acting DSL) and Headteacher (DDSL) in overseeing safeguarding and child protection.
- Promote a culture of vigilance, safety, and inclusion across the school.

Key Responsibilities

Alongside the staff you will be responsible for safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and young people.

SENCO Duties
- Lead and manage SEND provision in line with the SEND Code of Practice.
- Coordinate assessments, reviews, and EHCP processes.
- Monitor pupil progress and implement effective interventions.
- Provide training and guidance to staff on inclusive practices.
- Act as the key liaison for external agencies.
- Maintain accurate records and report to school leaders.

Deputy DSL Duties
- Support the school's compliance with safeguarding legislation.
- Act as a first point of contact for safeguarding concerns.
- Manage safeguarding cases under the DSL's direction.
- Deliver safeguarding training and raise staff awareness.
- Liaise with external agencies and report to school leaders/governors.

Pastoral & Family Engagement
- Build strong partnerships with parents and carers.
- Provide pastoral support to pupils and families.
- Promote a whole-school ethos of inclusion, tolerance, and understanding.

About You

We are looking for an experienced and motivated leader who:
- Holds (or is working towards) the National SENCO Award.
- Has proven experience in SEND leadership.
- Demonstrates strong safeguarding knowledge (DSL training desirable).
- Is committed to inclusive practice and pupil wellbeing.
- Can inspire staff, pupils, and families through collaboration and support.
