Further details about the role

We are committed to enabling all our students to excel educationally. Come and join our great facilities team, responsible for maintaining our award-winning buildings and grounds.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic person to join our Academy team in maintaining our site grounds and premises. This role will be part of a team that covers all 3 of our academy sites in Exmouth in assisting with their general maintenance, porterage, and security.

The Deaf Academy provides specialist education and care tailored to the individual needs of Deaf young people. The sense of belonging to an inspiring bilingual community can transform students as they develop language skills and journey towards independence and fulfilling their potential. Our campus opened in 2020 and has 3 buildings and wonderful grounds, and is a short walk from Exmouth beach. This is a full time role working all year round, the academy offers great benefits of 30 days annual leave a year alongside a Group Personal Pension including 8% employer contribution, and great training and development opportunities.

What to expect from the role:

• The general maintenance of all Academy owned external areas across three local sites (grass, hedge, weeding, MUGA pitch and cleaning of filters)
• Maintaining the premises so it stays safe and accessible (gritting, clearing paths, guttering, small maintenance tasks such as putting up shelving, repairing items)
• Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young adults responsible for (or come into contact with) in accordance with the Academy’s Safeguarding Policy & Procedures.

Commitment to safeguarding

Safeguarding is at the centre of all that we do at the Deaf Academy. Our Safeguarding Lead is James Heaver, who is supported by three Deputies and the wider welfare team, but everyone has an important role to play in safeguarding the welfare of our students and every single member of staff completes compulsory safeguarding training.
