This is a fantastic opportunity to join Aston University Engineering Academy (AUEA) Part of Aston University Stem Academy Trust (AUSEAT) and lead our outstanding careers programme that enhances students’ cultural capital and supports their social mobility.

For Level 6 qualified applicants, pay scale is: Grade PO Point 40 - PO Point 44 (pro rata salary £36,170 - £39,996, term time only + 2 weeks, 37 hours per week)*Salary Based on 2024/25 figures and subject to 2025/26 Cost of Living rise.

We would also consider applications from unqualified professionals with the right skill set. Salary for unqualified is SO1 Point 33 to SO1 Point 35 – £33,250 – £35,079 (Full Time Equivalent) pro rata at £31,244 to £32,697 based on 37hrs per week term time only + 2 weeks and will also include funding of Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development (worth £3000).

About Us

AUEA is an established 13–18 University Technical College (UTC) located on the Aston University campus, specialising in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths). With strong partnerships across major industries and a track record of excellence, AUEA is a forward-thinking and inclusive school community.

We are proud to be recognised by Ofsted (2022), which highlighted our "Exception enrichment programme [that] develops excellent employability skills," preparing our students exceptionally well for the world of work.

Our academy is consistently oversubscribed, with 243 students in Years 9–11 and 637 in our Sixth Form, including 131 students on Technical Level qualifications.

The Role

The Careers Leader is responsible and accountable for the delivery of the UTC’s Strategic Careers Education Plan. Careers leadership involves working to ensure students are at the heart of all planning, implementing, and quality assurance; managing the delivery of career guidance, networking with external partners, including employers; coordinating the contributions of teachers, subject teachers, mentors and SENDCo.

The Careers Leader has the authority to influence the development of strategy and implement the careers programme. The Careers Leader is required to work in collaboration with the SLT to ensure employer and partner links are actively developed and retained to provide a range of meaningful career related activity to meet the needs of the UTC and curriculum.

What We’re Looking For

• Passion for careers education and student development
• A strategic thinker with excellent organisational and communication skills
• Experience working with young people in an educational or guidance setting
• Level 6 IAG qualification or willingness to work towards it (funded by the Academy)
• A collaborative, inclusive approach to leadership and delivery
