University of Sheffield
We are inviting applications for the role of Research Assistant working on an exciting translational project aimed at identifying novel small molecule compounds – modulators of a lncRNA involved in neurodegenerative disease pathogensis. You will join the research team of Dr Tatyana Shelkovnikova based in Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN) at the University of Sheffield.

You will play a key role in the biology support on a translational project funded by My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and aimed at identifying new small molecules targeting a disease-relevant RNA. The candidate will work alongside a team of chemists on iterative cycles of new compound testing in a variety of in vitro and cellular assays.

You will be expected, with guidance from the PI, to perform assay development and analysis of compound activity, compile and present results for team meetings and grant reports, present at lab meetings and conferences and contribute to other activities in the group as needed (e.g. supervision of student projects).

You will have a Master’s degree in a biology discipline (e.g. cell biology, biosciences, neuroscience, etc) and experience on neuroscience projects related to neurodegenerative disease research and/or modelling. You should be experienced in culturing neuronal models and studies of RNA metabolism. The ideal candidate would have a background in assay development including cellular assays in 96-well format, as well as high-content and/or longitudinal imaging and analysis of cellular phenotypes. You should be highly motivated and collaborative.

You will be placed in vibrant, multi-skilled team of 10, where you will be able to reach your full potential as a translational researcher aiming to improve understanding of human neurodegenerative disease and find promising treatment options. The post will be primarily on-campus (some hybrid work is possible) and comes with conference travel allowance.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
